The "inDisguise" was made for the middle/secondary school I am in because it has been kinda known for stolen iPods... So I just used my handy dremel and cut a square out for my iPod. I also lined it with duct tape so it was smooth and comfy :)
DuckPod

Ah, yes, the DuckPod. My Contour Showcase sits inside of this; this is built for when I pack it and store it. It isnt just duct tape; it is lined on the inside twice with buble wrap, then a layer of duct tape, then some bubble wrap (again) and then a final layer of duct tape. It is nearly industractable.
Id hate to send this through an airport: Id be dead by the time I yelled out "iPod Case." :D
Just thought I'd share some of my handy work with ya' ;) Enjoy!
UPDATE:
Guess what... The inDisguise will be in WIRED MAGAZINE! Yes, you are hearing me correct. Wired will have an article on it, complete with pictures. Here is the email I recieved.
Hi Joseph,
Thanks for getting back to me. My editor really liked your mod, so, with
your permission, we'd like to feature it on a page in Wired. I have your
e-mail address, but I also need your phone number for reference purposes
(Someone might be calling you up for a short interview, to fact check, for
art, etc.)
Thanks so much!
Suz
After much conversation, they decided for me to mail it in and have the take a photo shoot it. My inDisguise is now a star, hope the fame doesnt get to his head. This is so awesome!

I thought of removing a cd players innards and putting an ipod in as an anti-theft device. I never actually got to it. It seems you did a nice job though.

ya but you might want to use different earbuds! they kind of defeat the purpose of the cd player

I really recomend NOT lining the inside of the DuckPod with Duct Tape. That pic you see is my fourth try... Why I say this is because the duct tape tends to leave a little resedue behind that takes some scrubbing to come off.
Bubble Wrap is a great alternative.
Goodluck on your DuckPod!

Wow. A few kids at my school have an iPod (maybe about 20?) but I'm still scared of getting it stolen. I wish I was handy with tools. I have the same blue Walkman.

hey kikoman thanks for the idea, actually that was a sony cd player my parents bought for me back in 1995 it still worked to my suprise oh well. But it serves a good use now.

Heh, someone came up with a disguise case awhile back. ;)
www.retropod.com
Still, I totally sympathise with what you have to deal with. It's hard to believe that what you describe continues to goes on. :o
Just remember...in case the worst happens:
ALWAYS KEEP THE IPOD BOX AS IT HAS THE SERIAL NUMBER ON IT, AND YOU SHOULD ALSO WRITE IT DOWN ON A PIECE OF PAPER TO KEEP IN YOUR WALLET. THE SERIAL NUMBER CAN EASILY BE SHOWN ON THE IPOD BY SECURITY AND CONFIRM YOUR OWNERSHIP.
I hope someone does this and nails those #######s to the wall....

I lined my ductape case with an old sock
I had a great idea, why not turn the indisgusepod into a charger, too? You could put a battery in there..
Kikoman

Cool guys, thanks for the feedback :)

Oh, and about that retropod...
Meh! Thats really cool. If I would have seen that before hand, I would have used my old Walkman. But thats going to my next project. Lining it with foam would be AWESOME! :P
Also, I am prototyping a gear contraption thing that works as your finger for the scroll wheel..
It could work, it could not. It will be 1337, though.

That's cool! I like disguises. Its like the high end bikes you see in big cities with spray paint and stickers all over them.
Duct tape rocks!!

I have the same Sony CD player except in Silver. wouldnt mind a step bys step explanation on how to do it kikoman. would be quite funny to carry around.

I might make one... :)

in response to darling_nikki :
its fairly simple to do...i just unscrewed the screws then yanked off the circuit board...i sawed of the excess plastic until i had a perfect fitting for the ipod. it was tiring but it was kinda fun.

Right, and the screen or mainboard of the iPod isn't sufficient?

I believe Tholek mentioned that in regards to iPods being stolen. Pretty darn hard to look at the screen when it is in the clutches of some thief.

Now that's creative!! I can live without the ducttape one tho (sorry), however for the linings of the ducttape case you could use felt, it's like 20 cents a sheet at wal mart. Just a thought ;)

In most cases I'd agree with you but witht he iPod ebcoming more popular, more and more people want them but don't have them, I have seen people with cheap generic mp3 players, cd players etc using white headphone, and no, these were not indesguise mp3 players.

I was actually thinking about taking an old CD player, and since I know how to solder correctly, buy a remote and rewire the switches on the CD player to do what the iPod would do.

Lol, nice dude... Good luck with people believing that your listening to a cd with a busted screen... Anyway, those cd players must have been super popular because everyone I know has had one at some point... :P

thats awsome.

That's great stuff! I want one of those "InDiguise" CD cases! When I'm jogging thru the rough part to get to my gym, it would come in handy (I use a pair of Sony's over the ears when jogging so I can hear people/cars/muggers/etc so they're black earphones).
Can someone make a step-by-step guide to making one and the materials you need? I know it sounds self-explanitory but I'm worried about completely ruining the CD player. I only have one to spare, LOL! Ah, but wait! That CD player has a CLEAR lid!! They'd see the iPod through the clear lid! LOL! I'm screwed. ;)

Yea.. This is awesome man.. About the headphones in disguise.. Either get new headphones or do what I did.. I just popped open my broken BOSE headphones, the big poofy ones.. lol..and put my earbuds in them, still great sound, same battery life.. and more comfortable.. the sound from the buds just bounce back and forth between my ears and the headphones.. Its a nifty little mod.. ;) good luck

Its not that hard, I drilled threw it a couple of times, but just go for it. Generic CD players today without ESP cost 12 bucks.
