View Full Version : HELP!!! What cords for ipod???

first off hello!

Now my friend gave me his old ipod when his mom bought him a new photo ipod and i need to find out wich cables ill need to buy to set up my ipod so i can put songs on it and charge it on my windows pc.


All i have right now is the ipod itself, and the headphones.

Why buy them? Have your friend give the cables he used to use for the iPod. He's getting new ones with the iPod photo. Unless of course he's greedy and wants to keep extra cables either to hook up the iPod to another computer or just in case something happens to the new ones.

He lost the cables when he moved from his parents house to his own place :(

I didnt mess with the ipod for a few weeks cause i didnt have a comp that was working :(

In that case, you should pick up the Apple iPod Dock Connector to FireWire and USB 2.0 Cable. It's one cable with the dock connector on one side and both FireWire and USB on the other. It costs the same as buying either the FireWire or USB cable seperately. You should also pick up an iPod Power Adapter. This will except the FireWire end of the cable I mentioned so you can charge the iPod from an electrical socket. This is needed if/when you do any firmware updates to the iPod.

do i need to buy the dock thingy for the Apple iPod Dock Connector to FireWire and USB 2.0 Cable, or can i hook it strait into my ipod?

you do not need the dock, cables on their own are sufficient.

ok so the dock really isnt essential? cause the cables i see at the story say usb 2.0 and firewire to dock but they will work if i plug them strait into my ipod? or is there a diffrent cable
