I have a 3rd gen 10G Ipod that just stopped working when connected to a PC via the USB cable. It is stuck with the Apple symbol but can be reset and put into diagnostics. After forcing disk mode it will be recognized by the PC but can't but Stopped. The Updater doesn't find it and if you run Itunes (without Updater) it will crash the computer with a disk.sys error. In forced disk mode it appears to charge. I opened it and checked the battery voltage. It is 3.44V. I disconnected the battery and tried connecting to the PC (several) thinking the battery was pulling down the Firewire voltage but it behaved the same as with battery. If you leave it sit it ends up with the battery symbol and exclamation mark but this doesn't seem to take long as if battery has really not charged properly. Any ideas?

Please let me know if you find any solutions to this. I have had many problems with this breand new ipod and want to throw it at a wall. I have a lot of data from my computer on it from when i reformatted my computer. I called apple and they just said to return it to be repaired, but if i do this I know that all the data on it will be lost forever. Just let me know if you have any luck at all!

I have a 3G Ipod that just stopped working. I thought the battery was bad and pulling down the voltage but with a new battery it behaves the same and is stuck with the Apple icon. It passes the disk scan but running the HDD Scan in the diagnostics it give a READ FAIL and OX00000070. Now does this definitely mean the HDD is bad or can it be the HDD interface that is bad. Since it does the regular disk scan OK something must be working some of the time. Anyone know anythings about proper checking of the drives. Also I have a 2G Ipod. Can I just open that up and try the 3G drive on it to see if it works?
