charging issue

just trying to get this charging issue nailed.
i currently have a pc with USB 1.1
i am going to buy a firewire card for my pc so i can link up my ipod via firewire.
when the ipod is synced with the pc via the dock does it not charge then?
can you not also charge the ipod when it is not connected via the normal power supply.
getting confused over this charging & syncing thing with the firewire/usb cable you can buy from apple. would you not have to have a USB 2.0 port/card to use this cable anyway?

When you buy the firewire card for your PC, make sure it has the 6 pin firewire connector and not the 4 pin one. With a 6 pin port you can charge and sync with the firewire cable that comes with the iPod.

I'm using USB2 on my laptop and its a bit of a pain having to connect the ipod to the pc and also to a power outlet while syncing. I may end up getting a firewire card for the laptop just so it doesn't need an external power supply.
