I tried to transfer all of my music to my new HD. (Its NTFS formated where as the orgional HD was FAT32 b/w.) I used a 3rd party prog to back up all of my music. The transfer stopped on a bad filename error leaving corrupted files in its wake.

It took me 3 weeks to learn how to remove/move/rename these corrupted files. Trust me I tried 5 differet methods for deleting a bad file. MoveOnBoot couldent touch it.

But reguardless. What should I do inorder to correct any songs that is known to give winXP problems. I think my biggest problem was the fact that their was a (:) in the names of many PROBLEM files.

HELP?!?!?

It's not the "song title" that's causing problems -- it's the file name. There is a difference. The file name can by anything you want it to be, while the "song title" is buried in the ID3 tag data.

The file itself can be as simple as "song1.mp3." Yet, the song title, artist, genre, etc will all be in the ID3 data.

So, simply change all the file names on the files giving you trouble. Then, when you add them to your iTunes library, you'll see all the ID3 tags and make sure everything is accurate.

After that, if you have iTunes set to "organize your music folder," it will change the filename to something acceptable.

WOW i had given up on this whole thing guru..

Thanks for the reply..

But.. I want to take every precaution possible so i dont accidently erase al of my songs.. I have no clue when it comes to using my iTunes/iPod. My knowledge consists of conecting my iPod to my computer; pointing iTunes towards an MP3 I want on my Pod; ripping a cd onto my ipod; and manually ejecting the ipod when it doubles as a storage device. I avoided the different features because i dont want to loose my music.

SO could you clear up a few questions before I try winging it...

¾ of my iTunes library was from barrowed cd's and mp3s. Althought my iPod plays the missing songs, iTunes cannot find the tracks. If i need to edit the ID3 tag on any of those 1200 songs, what steps are needed to do so?

After that, if you have iTunes set to "organize your music folder," it will change the filename to something acceptable.

What exactly will iTunes do to my music when thie feature is turned on?

to venture off topic...

I found about 3 songs with incorrect play times. The worst being a song which will play 36min 41sec. longer than the regular one.. I never listened to them because i was afraid the fille will kill my ipod.

thanks for your advice.
