Ok... i think this might be a new one. Can't find it anywhere.
After installing my iPod (and going through many trials and tribulations in the process including more than 3 hours with tech support), I got the darn thing to work.
BUT .... since i got the ipod to work... my internet explorer won't access secure pages online (bank info, bill pay, etc.)
security is set to low, no firewalls, etc. done all that. also uninstalled and re-installed explorer.
the last option is to do a system restore to before i had the iPod installed, but that means i'll have to go through the whole ordeal to get my ipod to work again! ah!!!! if i have to do that again, i will just return the thing, though i love it now that it actually works.
any other ideas?
please? :(

just the standard "page cannot be displayed."
and it's only on secured site. works fine on every other web page. i also checked with my internet provider and went through some steps with them with no luck.
oh. and i've got a custom built pentium 4 running XP service pack 1 and a new 20gb ipod.

Try using a different browser. Internet Expolorer is crap. Use FireFox.

Put IE security up to medium, put a firewall on your computer, and install firefox.
Oh and virus scan and install and run every single spy/adware remover you can.

Couldn't the fact that you have no firewall be the reason that you can't access these sites? I mean, a bank/credit card company won't want to do business with someone whose information can be so easily hacked. Do what Enjoi said and you should be fine...

i already tried firefox too. couldn't get it to connect. suspecting it might have something to do with the other problems.
i'm sure you guys get all kinds of people coming on here asking inane questions. but i actually did a lot of research and made a lot of phone calls trying to get this solved before i posted here. thought you guys might have some input. didn't come here to get ridiculed.
thanks for the firefox comment tho. at least you were trying to be helpful. i appreciate it.
I can't see that installing an iPod per se would stop secure (https) pages from loading but the rest would work.
I think you have deeper problems and may be shooting the messenger as they say..
By suggesting you do a system restore I assume that you are running XP. What version?
What were the problems that you had getting the iPod to work?

Do you suspect that the problem may be with your bank's website? Have you tried to perform these operations on another computer?
Like K1W1 said, I can't believe that having an iPod would cause this problem. Millions of people have iPods and I've never read of this problem either on iPodLounge or on the Apple forums.

well, it's not a problem with the web sites. they work fine on other computers. it's not just my bank's site, it's others as well (all https sites, so far).
i've suspected it might not be the iPod as well. i've tried searching for solutions on microsoft's site as well. nothing has worked. microsoft said it was the iPod's fault, apple said it was microsoft's fault. you know how it goes.
i am running XP home with service pack 1. tried upgrading to 2 but there was a glitch there too.
when installing iPod, i had the usual can't mount, computer won't detect ipod, problems. the apple tech's had me do all sorts of stuff to get it to work, so i'm just assuming that something they had me do is causing the problem i'm having now.
thanks for all the recommendations. i really do think i'll just try the system restore and see where that gets me. i think i've tried everything else!
My guess (and it is a guess) is that somehow you have a screwed up Registry Entry. This would explain why both Mozilla and IE are experiencing the same problems.
You mention that you had issues with SP2. Have your https sites worked sinec you tried that install?

we got it! we had a tech guy come by. we did a system restore to before i installed the iPod. then we had to upgrade to SP2 via another web site that he recommended (not Microsoft). that seemed to solve the problem. of course, now i have to try and reinstall the iPod. i'm too tired of computer problems right now to even try it. plus i have to re-rip all of my cds. that too a few days.
oh well!
thanks for all of the suggestions.
