I'm sure this has been covered, but I searched and read the FAQ's to no avail.

My friend just bought a 20GB Ipod and wants to download all the songs off of my 40GB (only 40% full). Is this possible, and if so, how?

Again, I apologize as I have a feeling this is an old topic, but i couldn't find it.

Thanks.
Chris

Yes, it's definitely been covered before ad nauseum... :)

The short answer is that you'll have to transfer the music from your iPod to your hard drive (or his hard drive, as the case may be), and then import it into iTunes and transfer it to his iPod as you normally would.

There are a number of utilities that will do this for you, many of which can be found in the downloads (http://www.ipodlounge.com/downloads.php) section.

Alternatively, if you simply want to pull off the entire library, you should be able to just access your iPod in "disk mode" (ie, as a drive letter) and copy off the \iPod_Control\Music directory. All of your MP3/AAC files live under that directory structure.... they aren't particularly well-organized, but they're all there in native form. If you subsequently import these into iTunes, it should organize them for you as long as you have the "Copy Music to Library" and "Keep Music Folder Organized" options turned on (see Edit->Preferences->Advanced in iTunes).
