I've figured out how to use iPodder (windows version) and it automatically download podcasts (.MP3's) into a directory my choice.

The next step is what confuses me: How do I get these podcasts automatically added to my iTunes library so it automatically syncs to my iPod every morning?

Furthermore, how can I locate new podcasts on my iPod? When iPodder downloads them, does it do anything special to the ID3 tag? (how can I find them on the iPod after they are synced?)

I was using iPodder and it automatically created new playlists in iTunes for the podcasts. It creates regular playlists, not smart ones, so they will be at the bottom of the list. If you automatically transfer your entire library the podcasts should go on your iPod automatically. If you transfer selected playlists you will have to check off the new playlists iPodder creates. The ID3 tags vary depending on the podcast .

A Smart playlist with the condition 'added in the last 1 day' might make it easier to find them.

if it gets added to itunes, it will be in the recently added playlist, at the top unless u have added alot more music.

What I did was I chose my directory, calling it "podcasts" directly in the iTunes library so that all downloaded stuff goes in there - before that I assign the genre "podcast" to them.

I created a SPL with genre podcast - all of the podcasts automatically get listed

You can create another SPL genre podcast playcount 1 - and name it heard podcasts - which I then erase - I have yet to hear one I've wanted to keep forever

Since I'm using the free and limited version of iPodder X it's more complicated, the full version is easier it seems
