I own a 40gb photo ipod and I am considering buying the shure e2c's. I don't know if I should buy them or not due to the fear of hearing static (audio defect). I ordered them from earhponesolutions.com so they havea return policy. I can cancel the order before it is shipped but I dont know if I should get them cuz the return shipping is expensive.

I have the e2 phones and I like them a lot better than the sony ex71 or their $150 noise cancelling earbuds which I also own. Because of the metal jack base and the metal body of the ipod come into contact and cause static you will probably have to cover the base of the jack with a tiny insulating donut-shaped peice of packing or electrical tape to prevent such contact. A little layer of paint on the base might work just as well and be less likely to need periodic replacement. Others have used a little tape over the jack input but it may look obtrusive to you. Either method works well to eliminate static. Some earphones have a plastic jack base that does not cause static.

I definitely think you should bue the Shures. I have no problem with the static issue on mine. They are worth every penny of the 60 dollars you can find them for from reputable dealers online.

They sound great, and once you get used to them, are quite comfortable.

Great buds.

I have purchased them but have not yet received them... wondering why its taking so long. May b the weather? But does the e2 have good bass? I wanted an earbud that has good bass but more durable tahn the ex71. If it has slightly less bass than the ex71 thats ok too.

The better the seal in your ear the better the bass seems to be. I prefer the e2 bass as it does not have the boominess of the ex71s. I don't like that boominess. My ex71s are OK but they kind of remind me of how standard car stereos have those boomy speakers that no amount of fiddling with the bass controls seems to fix. But that is my own preference. Some people really like their bass boomy. It sounds as if you'll get to decide for yourself very soon.

e2 bass is tight, accurate and responsive. They are very affordable. leaps ahead of the competition in that price range. a definite yes.

Does the e3's soft rubber sleeves fit on the e2? I jus got mine and find that both the foam and silicon sleeves are kinda painful.. I really like the rubber sleeves that came with me ex71's but they don't exactly fit on the e2.

I'd say go for the E2c's. The sony ex71's have more bass (which I do like) but the Shures are more sound-accurate which makes them sound substantially better. They trail the ex71's bass by a little, but a noticable amount if you're listening for it in particular.

Only problem is that if you're on a budget you'd have to justify paying another $30 on top of the ex71's price of $30 to get the E2c's.

No, unfortunately the e3 flexsleeves don't fit on the e2. But you can strip a couple of e2 foamies down to the plastic cylinder, slide the ex71 flexsleeves onto the cylinder, then place the cylinder on the e2 earpieces for a very comfortable fit. These following modifications are about as close as you can come. Follow these links and be sure to look at the attached images.
