For the longest time I wanted the shure e2c's but then was afraid they wouldnt fit my ears. My ears arent big but the opening before my canal seems to be bigger than those of the testers at these headphone companies. So I changed my desires over to the sony ex81's because of the clips that helped hold them in. They seemed perfect but Id rather not deal with that long cord so-so sound quality.

So...
At the present moment I have decided to go for the ex51's because of their price and cord length (color is not a concern). Will these be fine for me? I am far from an audiophile and I have used basically $5 over the head headphones all my life. Im still sketchy on whether they will stay in my ear or not. If theres any question at all I will just go for the ex81's.

Oh and the extra cord extension on the ex81's, that is just a male 1/4" connector on one side and a male 1/8" connector on the other right? Couldnt one just go to radio shack and get a smaller cable to use in replace of the extension included?

Sorry for the long post...Im new to all the in ear heaphones and never owned a pair before.

I got the ex51's in and I hate them. They do not offer this great volume increase as everyone says canal phones do. They also don't fit great. When you shake your head around alot, should these things fall out? Hopefully someone will help me out this time

Have you tried all three sizes of the eartips/sleeves (rubber bits at the end)? Perhaps you should try out the larges. I just tried mine on (I use large) and they stay in fine. Shaking my head around does not effect their positioning for me. Have you pushed them in as far as possible? What you need to do is try to shove them as far as you can in your ear to form a "seal". I use that term loosely since these aren't true isolating in-ears such as the Shures and Etymotics that will completely block noise out.. For that reason you shouldn't notice a HUGE difference in volume, which are usually associated with Shures and Etymotics, but a pretty good one for most..

Good luck,

Even with the smalls, I will push them in and then the sound gets muffled. Then I will let go of them and they push there selves back out. Not fully out of my ear but just out of the canal. Getting pretty frustrated.

Exactly how far are you expecting them to go in..? I am getting the feeling that you are looking for them to go as deep as high-end in-ears such as the Shures/Ety's. This is not the case, they are meant to stay in the ears, but not deep in the canal.. These are mean to be budget in-ears not high-end in-ears.. If you are not satisfied after a couple of days you should return them and perhaps go with some E2c's..

Read the FAQ re: the 51'71 above. You'd be surprise @ what you learn.
