does anybody have a solution for this error?
I've asked so many people for help and no one has been able to give me an answer.

do you a firewall or antihacker software ?
(such as Norton Firewall or Kasparsky Antihacker)
Disabled them and try to restart iTunes.

I have McAfee Firewall, but I set it up so that itunes was allowed full access.
I tried disabling the firewall also and I still got error -9812.

I've tried several times and I'm certain my firewall is not the problem.
Does anyone have any other suggestions?

I got this from another thread. The point is that I had installed Bad Apple, and I think that iTunes 6 doesn't interface with it well.
Follow this path:
C drive (assuming your install drive is labled C on your computer)
Program Files
Windows
System32
Drivers
Etc
There is a file called Hosts. Open it in notepad. You will see a line
127.0.0.1 phobos.apple.com
place a # in front of that line so that it looks like this:
#127.0.0.1 phobos.apple.com
Save the file. your problem should be resolved.

Just a thought, since the above method DID work for me: uninstall Bad Apple. It might be a choice you have to make: Have Bad Apple or don't connect to the Music Store.

Worked like a charm. Thanks
I changed 127.0.0.1 to #127.0.0.1 and it worked.
This # basically makes this line of code a comment line instead of an executed command. So why does it work then?
And why does Apple support keep telling everybody that the Cable company has blocked people, or that for other reasons, the Music Store is being blocked. I knew it was not those things because I have other computers here at home that are connecting behind the same firewall.

I don't program, so I'm just spitballing here, but I think BA had to put in something that hid its existence from Apple. Could this be some sort of spoof that BA had built in, but iT 6 was built to fight?
I also suspect that either Apple techs just haven't heard everything, like most support depts, or have been told not to admit that BA exists. As much as I have an affection for Apple, it wouldn't shock me if they were being snippy like that, considering the trouble they've gone to fighting RealPlayer and such.

I'm going through everything, trying to find a way to make it work.

I had 2 files. One was a .txt file that I could open and edit and the other one was not. I changed the .txt file, but I still continue to get error -9812.
