i need to split the connector to my car lighter in my car to power my ipod, cell phone, and gps.

i plan to use a 3 outlet 12v dc adapter (allowing me to use 3 devices in one input). as seen here: radio shack thing (http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5F009%5F001%5F002%5F002&product%5Fid=270%2D1550)

i'm going to put the 3 outlet 12v dc adapter behind the dash. i'm wondering, will the standard cigarette lighter be enough to power all three things if i split it into 2?
should i get an extra cigarette lighter adapter with at least 15 amps?
I noticed that this accessorie outlet (http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5F009%5F001%5F002%5F006&product%5Fid=270%2D1556)
is only 10amps. will that power the 3 outlet adapter and 3 devices without a problem?
Or do i need to get an actual cigarette lighter (not accessory slot)?

I have one outlet for my Pocket PC and my ipod on a 10amp fuse. They don't draw nearly enough power to get close.

I use the two outlet version of the one you linked to above.

so is are you plugged into your actual cigarette lighter or an 'accessory' 12v dc outlet?

and they dont have enough power as is?

...to get close... to having a problem...

they work fine. you would need to add several more devices to have an issue.

yeah.. you should be fine... if you blow your fuse you know you went over. in this case DONT just slap a bigger fuse in the slot... i've seen people literally singe their DC power wires because their devices were drawing more than the wire could handle. The fuse wouldnt blow because they had a higher rated fuse than the wire gauge would allow.

To answer your question, with out taking draw measurements on your stuff it???s impossible to answer perfectly. However, if your stuff stops working, check the fuse- it???ll most likely be blown. Then you???ll know if you were drawing too much power. You???re car???s fuse box wont let you draw more than the wires can handle so don???t worry about it being a safety issue.
