any suggestions for good quality in-ear phones for someone who is looking to spend $40-$50 at most. i'm not looking for fantastic in-ear phones (considering that i'm not will to spend a lot of money to buy them)... i just want something better than the standard iPod in-ear phones that are able to be almost unoticable when listening to my iPod in class. :p

Sony MDR-EX71's or 51's. Both very popular sets of in-ear earphones.

The 51's gets my vote just for the cord length issue.
$29.49 from Amazon shipped.

Clean your ears out regularly and you should be fine. If you do get a build up of ear wax in the small hole in the centre of the earphones then you can just poke through this to open up the hole again.

today, I got Sony MDR-EX71SL (white). it has super bass. even it's more than my Shure E3C. it's maybe awesome if you listen to hip-pop /rap/ R&B music.

To be fair, the bass on the E3c's is not really a priority of Shure.. It was more focussed on the mids and highs.

Koss Plugs for under $20. Particularly if you follow the mod instructions on Headwize.com and, at the least, replace the foam with drugstore bought foam earplugs w/ a hole punched in them. You can also get Shure E2C for under 70 if you shop around.

In terms of sound they are the exact same. Aesthetically is where the two differ, albeit not by much...
