Hi guys,
I just bought my iPod mini, a nice green one, but when I transfered over some of the audio books I had on MP3 but they don't appear on the iPod as Audio Books, so I have to manually fast forward to where I left off which is very frustrating on an 11 hour book. Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this?
Any help's much appreciated.
Casey

Yea... because they are mp3 format.... The only way you could make them non mp3 is buying burning them to cd and re-ripping them as AAC and then changing the filetype.

But the audio quality loss is not worth it imho.

Welcome to the lounge. Read this thread (http://www.ipodlounge.comm/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=45967)

You will need to make the mp3 audio book bookmarkable. The instructions in the above link gives you step-by-step instructios on how to do this. The audio books sound quality will still sound good. Just rip them using at least 32kbps.

No, way, man. No need at all to burn CD's. Just convert the mp3 files to AAC in iTunes, like Honeybee says. Be sure to do in Stereo if you have 4G+ or mini. See the second link below for how to. Piece of cake.

And in the future, you can save yourself all of the trouble by just downloading them from Audible.com or iTunes.

They are already in iPod format for bookmarking, and also have chapter or section markers pre-inserted in the file.

Thanks for the quick response guys,
I'm re-encoding the books just now, and I think I'll be getting them from iTunes from now on rather than buying the CD's. I'll let you know how I get on

You are right, it is a pain and very expensive to buy CD books. The only reason we fool around with them is gifts to us, loaners, libraries, held in old collection, etc.

I think, Casey, that Audible still has the 13 for $99 sale still going, and/or you could join one of their plans to get books much less expensively than at the iTunes Store (all of whose audio books come from audible). Both download to iTunes (using the download magager at audible. The plans are $14.95 for one book and one program a month, $21.95 for two books a month, or $121 for 12 books with 24 months to use your credits (see Ulitmate Listener Thread for details). Look for the two book credits free to join up Audible on banners in iPodlounge or directly on audible.com

I agree with Robert--audible is the way to buy audio books rather than through the iTunes store. Buying books directly from audible also provides the advantage of having the ability to download your book more than once if you need to. At audible, after you've purchased and downloaded a book, it's stored in your library so that you can download it again if you ever need to.
