Either your phones aren't very efficient, or you're going deaf. Try something like the Sony MDR-G74SL or MDR-EX71SL. The latter isn't that efficient either, but they provide more usable isolation than most headphones so you feel as though you're getting more music in your ears.

If you want your iPod to play at louder Volume, then here's a quick tip.
Steps:
1. Open iTunes on your Computer, dont matter if its mac or windows.
2. Now, go to the library, then, select, one of the songs, just select one, like when the song is highlighted in blue, that means its selecting.
3. Hit Ctrl A ---> that should select all the songs on your library.
4. I dont know what the controls are in mac ^^^ so if you have a mac, find out how to select all your songs in your library
5. Right click in any of the highlited songs, then click "Get Info"
6. Click the "Options" Tab
7. See where it says voluem adjusment? If you do, scroll the bar to 100% or all the way to the right, now all your songs should be louder
8. Sync your iPod to iTunes that way, your iPod is updated with the louder volume of the songs.
9. Listen to the music on your iPod, and see if its louder
10. Does that help you?
