I have a sony deck that doesnt have aux. I know the xa-300 will work but here in australia is extremely difficult to get and very expensive if i can.
So would either of these work?

You could use the XA-C30 but as you already know they can be expensive to buy outside the U.S. and also yet another component and bulk to fit.
The other option is to upgrade your Head unit, any sony that has Aux-lite input (about midway upwards in the range) will support the icelink or an ipod directly with an RCA cable without the need to by a converter.
I have the 5700 series head unit and it works brilliantly, and it works out even cheaper than buying sony's entry level cd changer unit and the converter.
