Yes, yes from what I can gather there are a lot of questions about the TAP but I did a brief scan of the page and this one doesn't seem to be on there. And, if I had it, I am sure someone else did too.

Anyway, to the best of my knowledge the TAP program is this: you take your broken ipod to CompUSA and they will replace it. Here is my question: can you buy a TAP warrantee on the replacement ipod?

If so, I am interested in taking in my 20gb ipod which I bought about a month ago at full 500 dollar price and trading it in for a 30 gb.

By the way, I had a membership here, but it doesn't seem to be valid anymore, did the whole forum get reset for the in coming of the new ipods?

I'm not too sure about the replacement ipod... I just know that a lot of the compusa require seeing your original receipts first prior to selling you the TAP. Have you try calling them?

btw, the old forum membership will not work here. This forum is owned by ipodlounge.com where as the old one was owned by another vendor.

you can buy the tap again for your replacement ipod. in fact, the salesperson will try to sell you one ;) !

ipodlounge has moved to a new home. we were unable to move the data from the old fora, so everybody needs to reregister.

Thanks for the info guys. I have read conflicting stories- can you just bring your ipod in and ask to trade it in for a newer model under TAP or does it have to be broken? If you could just trade it in, that's not a bad deal, 40 bucks or whatever it costs for TAP for a nice new ipod...

Well you're not supposed to be able to just trade it in, but this seems to vary from store to store. I asked one store (in Connecticut) about replacing mine and the guy said that it must not be in working order etc... A guy in the store here where I live (VA) said that people use their TAP to trade up all the time. If in doubt, call the store(s) nearest to you. While one may not allow you to trade up, another just might.

I'm still trying to come up with the extra scratch to go to the 15 GB when my original 5 GB finally dies and I have to get it replaced with the 10 GB. Apple already replaced it once, and now it's up to the same tricks (excessively loose scroll wheel, hold switch doesn't always take unit off-hold).

Well, I just called and left a message. I'm supposed to hear from them within the hour, so my fingers are crossed.

Heh, last Thursday I went to a CompUSA locally to ask some questions about how long it takes for replacement approval etc. if something were to happen to my iPod. The guy tells me he is approving it. He asked me if I had it with me. I told him I did, but that there was nothing really wrong with it. He says, "It's broke enough for me."
Basically I just walked in to ask some questions and walked out with a brand new 10 GB iPod-- even exchange for my original 5 GB-- only $42 and change out of pocket... for the TAP on the replacement iPod. ;)
