I purchased a regular cassette adapter but whenever my stereo starts to read the tape it goes between both sides a couple times then ejects the tape. I can hear the music just fine but the tape never stops turning over.
If I bought the Belkin Auto Kit could I just buy a 1/8 to 1/8 cable and run it from my headphone port on the iPod into the charger part

Think that last statement through for a minute ;)
belkin car charger connects to the dock connector on ipod (which has a line out feature) , you then connect the line out (through the ipod into the belkin) back into your headphone jack...that doesn't do anything for you.
Sounds like the tape adaptor is bad, or something is wrong with your stereo.

I would suggest buying an aftermarket head unit. It's gonna be much easier to hook up.
I have a '94 Explorer with a Pioneer MP3 CD Player head unit, I bought the IP-BUS to RCA converter and then a RCA to headphone jack and it works great. All I'm missing is the pocket dock or SiK Imp, so I can hook it up to the Line Out via dock connector.

I would buy a new head unit except Im a little short on cash at the moment. I would buy an iTrip if I could find any stores around here that carried them.

Ok, after disassembling my center console and all that jazz I found the RCA cables for my cd changer. There are two of them an look like the cables that plug into the back of the TV. One of them is for the left side speakers, one is for the right side. I bought something that looks like this (http://www.audiogear.com/Resources/~AdptMnipto2Qmf) but it doesnt work. I have the cables set up just fine but I can only hear the iPod when I put one of the output cables on the gold piece surrounding the hole where it should go in. Did I set it up wrong or will this setup not work? Im confused. :(

hmm, 2 things could be goin wrong:
1. you got the wrong cable. Make sure you get an RCA to 3.5mm cable and not just a 3.5mm splitter (I wouldn't think this would make a difference but it might)
or the more likely of the two
2. you just have a bad cable.
i quickly froogled RCA to 3.5mm cable and got this: http://www.buy.com/retail/product_jump.asp?sku=90134097&SearchEngine=Froogle&SearchTerm=90134097&Type=PE&Category=Elec&dcaid=17379
