Has anyone actually used the Shuffle? I wonder if the audio quality is similar to the other iPods, and if the audio defect problem in the 4G devices is present in the Shuffle.
Of interest, Walter Mossberg wrote a very favorable review of the Shuffle in the WSJ today.

6. The sound is great. It???s easily as loud and seems to be more clear with better bass response than our 3G iPod.

Just to add, as far as I know, the audio defect in the iPods was due to metal on metal. The metal of the headphone cord, would touch the metal of the back of the iPod. The Shuffle is all plastic, so I wouldn't imagine the defect even being possible.

Shuffle combined with SHURE E3c is perfect! Sounds great, can not distinguish any difference from my 3g 40GB. The cord length is great when the shuffle is used on the lanyard. It is the best combination for the gym!

The shuffle's sound quality is excellent in my opinion. No complaints there.

Yes. The Shuffle is as good as my old G1 iPod.

There are slight nuanced differences between the Shuffle and other iPod's but to most people they will sound alike. Having both i find that on good headphones (not the iPod ones) the bass is tighter with the shuffle, but the 3G has better depth and smoothness in the highs.

I just got my iPod Shuffle, 1 GB two days ago. The sound quality is excellent, and equivalent to my 20 GB 2nd Generation device.

Shuffle sound quality is great. I was really surprised. Unlike my 4g 20g it sounded decent with Apple earbuds in my opinion. I had to shop around for earbuds that made my 20g sound decent. (Bose Quiet Comfort 2)

i have had mine for a few days and yeah the ipod sounds great. but it is not as good as the sound card in my powerbook compared to that it sounds like the vocal booster equalizer but still very good, no distortion at all. :)
