Please choose the appropriate forum for this topic. Thank you. as a student, apple's educational discounts are awesome!
but with the shuflle, they weren't so lenient:

512mb: no discount
1gb: $10 discount

this was a disappointment for me. i know i shouldn't take it for granted, but i've come to expect it...
any thoughts to as why they didn't provide any help with this product. for all of the ipods, it's $30 off (even for the mini)

Because 99 is one of those prices where it seems cheap. The sweet spot.

apple needs to give the educational discount to all students... not just people in college. Being in middle (almost highschool) school it sure would be nice to take the extra $50 off a computer

It's $99, that's why, it's dirt cheap. I just saw a 256MB player advertised at $99, and it's no where near as good as an Apple.

99 dollars for students i guess apple says its cheap enough... 150 is good for students too whereas 300 is a whole different story.

i'm also guessing that Apple thinks that most buyer for the $99 model will be students, so in effect, it already is a student price.

As far as I know, you don't need to be in college to get the educational discount. They just list colleges on the education website for simplicity. If you are a student -- at any level -- you can shop the education store and get the discount. When in doubt, call Apple and ask.

In fact, you can be out of school and still get an educational discount. ;)

True, the discounts aren't all that much. But even the $30 you save off the regular iPod makes up for what you would've paid in taxes, which is the same with $10 off the larger capacity shuffle. My 1gb, with the $10 discount and tax, ended up being around $150 (and hey, paying $150 sure beats paying $160!). :D

They most likely can't afford profit-wise to take money off an already very cheap player such as the shuffle.

i find it interesting that apple discounts the accessories, which happen to be less than $99

(all ipod shuffle accessories are $26 instead of $29)

i think apple owes us an explaination as to why there is no discount on the 512mb shuffle.

Probably a higher profit margin on the accessories than the 512MB shuffle, percentage wise. A lot of companies don't give education discounts at all, Apple owes you, nor anyone else, any explanation as to why there is no education discount on the 512MB shuffle.

Also think R&D time. Not much to make an iPs dock. Lots to make the iPs itself.

Would you have been happier if Apple charged $149 for the 512MB version and gave you $10 off? Maybe $199 for the 1GB model with $20 off? Just some thoughts.

you are supposed to be in college... But nothing is stopping you anyway. I'm in high school and I use my school for educational discounts online... its meant for teachers.

so they don't make you proove that your a teacher or a staff member??? It seems like the school would be informed of a purchase and would check up on it to make sure it's legit...

Well my school has not contacted anyone about this, and I know 10 people who have used it. They don't ask you to validate anything, just pick your school.
