I was thinking of buying an canal earphone to better appreciate the sound of my iPod. Current budget is $60, but could stretch a little. I thinking of the Sony MDR-EX71WK, but dont know if I should get that, or Apple's or maybe the Shure e2c.

If you have a $60 budget that can stretch a little, the Shure E2s are your best choice.

I with slow bye on this one. If the E2's are anything like their older brothers, then it will be well worth it...

Just wondering, how does E2c compare with the Sony MDR-EX71WK in terms of comfort and sound quality?

Get the sony ex71/81's because the E2c look like hearing aids and are not too comfortable to wear at all.

How does the quality compare between the two?

I do not own a pair of E2c's I am judging them on what I have heard, and the general reputation of Shure (from my E3c's).
In terms of comfort I think the Sonys may be by a little better if you use the silicones on the E2c's, but if you use the foam sleeves I have heard that the Shures sound and feel great. The isolation on Shures are great, especially with the foams. The general opinion on the Sonys are their booming bass (perhaps too boomy?), which is quite good, but leaves something to be desired up in the mids and highs.. The Shures, however have a good amount of bass (not as boomy though), but sound much better in the upper sectors of the range..
Overall, I would definitely get the Shures. If you can manage to take up that $65 deal I would go for it. The sound quality and especially isolation are superb and outshine the Sonys. The Sonys are no slouch either, I've owned them for a year them. Think of it this way.. The Sonys are in the upper echelon of casual-grade earphones, while the E2c's are a gateway product into a more professional, serious level...
Good luck,
-Dan

Alright I need some bottomline prices for E2C with foam and Sony MDR-EX71WK. So far $60 seems to be the lowest of the E2C, and around $35 for the MDR.... Anywhere cheaper? And also, can I use these while working out? Is it advisable to do so?
