I'm not sure if you guys/gals have gotten a gander, but here's a link I dig up with CONFIRMED details about the new "flash based" iPod from Steve Job's presentation.
If it's been posted, please forgive me but I wanted to make sure you all saw. :)

I don't like the looks of the thing personally. But I haven't seen it in person so I'll hold off completely condemning it's looks for now.
It's flashbased, very small and cheap as Hell! That'll get people to buy it in and of itself.
I might even pick up one in the futurejust for excercising and jogging but right now I'm going to sit back and watch this thing play out. I'm very interested on reading real iPod Shuffle owner's take on it and how much people will possibly whine about it's real value without a screen and only 1GB size... we shall see. ;)

well, for the first time I am disappointed with ipod shuffle thing. it's not really what I wanted to see. even it doesn't have 2GB model. only 12 hours battery life. it suppose to be more than 20 hours. so I can say that Apple is not good at design, making Flash mp3 player. it's far behind from Samsung Flash one. you know what? last year, Apple was rank 1 company to sell ipods. Samsung was first rank to sell flash mp3 player over the world. maybe I need to see real ipod shuffle so that I can compare, look more detail. well, then I will change my mind. but not this time.

I don't dig the no screen. They are saying it's a "feature" by saying "life is random" and all that crap. I think it's just a cop out.
Besides that however, 150$ for a gig is pretty sweet, and then I won't have to rerip my library to mp3. I've been wanting a flash based for a while, so I'll probably get one...

i've got mixed feelings for this one; on one hand, it doesn't run on AAA batteries, and it must be well made (it's an iPod), but on the other hand, it has no screen, it only comes in 512MB or a gig, it only runs for 12 hrs, it has no click wheel, and it, in my opinion, doesn't look as good.
The iPod Shuffle is truly an entry level Player.

I went to the Stevenote, then saw them on display later. Thoughts
* Very Cheap. $149, $99 are great prices.
* The additional memory on the 1GB model makes it worth the price hike, IMHO.
* It is a very good value, IMHO.
* At first, I didn't like the screenlessness, but I doubt the target market will care, especially compared to tiny, hard to use UIs.
* It actually looks pretty good, I think. And it's so TINY!
* It's slogan is life is random; rumor was true. :D.

I think its cool especially for people that can not afford an ipod.

hmm yeah i dont dig the no screen, but i bet a ton of people will get one just to take their faves out while they jog, apple should come up with a set of buds that are designed to sit in your ears just for joggers, when ive tried running with mine (3G) they fly out

no screen sucks, if you want to get to a song you have to keep pressing the forward button again and again. i think it's pretty stupid. if they had added a screen it would appeal to a lot more people

it wouldnt matter if there was a screen or not. there is no user interface on the shuffle anyways. unless you memorize the track order you put them on, your chances are just as good goin top to bottom as goin in "shuffle" mode 1 in whatever number of tracks you have. now if its done alphabetically by artist and/or album, you can then surmise which order it would be in but it would be no different listening as opposed to seeing since there is no option to skip one track from another.

This might end up being a genious sales and marketing move by Apple. Now all the people who have lusted for an Ipod, but afford one might be tempted to try and be cool by getting a shuffle.
The no screen part still makes it overpriced, but the Shuffle (nor any of Apple's low end hardware) doesn't target the educated user, it targets the I want to be like other cool people user, and that might have great sales.

No point in having a screen, it???s a shuffle. You will never get the same order of songs, and when you put your ipod on shuffle what is the point in looking at it. It???s a more rugged alternative to the ipods with screens because you can just put it in your pocket and not be worried about scratches and if it does get scratched who cares its not like you spent 400 dollars on it.
Why don???t you people get the concept of the SHUFFLE?
*turns and runs* - 'The Emperor is naked!'
It's pretty (I think), but I don't get the same vibe I get from looking at my iPod. Shuffle looks cheap n cheerful , but not pretty enough to get me excited. Not adding a screen is a big mistake imo, I'd expect to see a screen on Shuffle 2G.

This is directed to the people griping about battery life.
Are you going to be away from a computer for more than 12 hours? If you answer "No" to this, then the battery life will not be a problem. Simply plugging the shuffle into any computer (Apple or otherwise) will charge it again. Honestly, who isn't near a computer every 12 hours? Don't tell me that most of you don't come online at least twice a day, especially the more avid loungers who probably come here every few hours or so

Hmmmm...don't like the fact that there is no wheel...but only a large "button". Really don't like the "no screen". AND I HATE playing my songs on "shuffle" so...although the size is cool, I still LOVE my Ipod A LOT MORE!
This will be great for all the "kids" out there lusting for the Apple's "white" headphones and that could not afford an Ipod.

Bottom line for me is I need it for workouts and when I'm doing that I don't need to look at the screen. I feel more comfortable working out with a flash player anyway.

My friend called me with the news and I checked it out briefly.
He said he was thinking about getting it for the gym because his ipod skips if he uses it at the gym. He also said it would be perfect because he could use iTunes and not worry about converting songs to play on other Mp3 players. I didn't understand at first about the no screen. But I guess it makes perfect sense. If you can't control the order of the songs or make a playlist then what are you looking at. I purchased my girl a Creative Lab Muvo because she had to have small and radio. I find the application for the menu to switch to the radio or playlist no where near the ipod. just my 2 cents

I think some people are losing sight of the fact that some people might want to buy the shuffle because of it's function, and not because they want to make a fashion statement with the white earbuds. I don't use earbuds anyway, so I'm buying the player cause I want it, and can use it.

I get the concept, but functionally I think it's just a stupid one.
