I am about to order a showcase for my 4g iPod, but which is better?

White:I heard white gets dirty easily, but in my opinion it looks better. Also it ships in 1-2 days at apple.com

Black: I hear this is better then white, but it takes 1-2 weeks to ship at apple.com

btw apple is the only place I can get it at dont ask why.

I had the white on my 3G. It does get dirty easily and doesn't look very good. I would go with the black. I bought the iSee for my 4G and like it, but it's only been 2 days.

Get the black one. I have the black one, my wife has the white one. The white one get's dirty way too easily. It's a pain in the butt.

I bought two white showcases on Ebay. The seller had a bunch of white and black available. The shipping was USPS Priority and it was very quick (got em in about 3 days). I paid $25 for each after combining shipping... Mine is not dirty yet, but I haven't had it very long. Hopefully it will clean up when it gets dirty. I really like it but my iTrip won't fit with the case.

Definately black, you don't have to worry about it getting dirty, plus it does look good with the white iPod.

Unless you plan on giving the showcase a bath every other day, the white one will get "dingy".

color is a personal preference...I opted for the black because of the propensity of the white one to get dirty very easily....I ordered mine last week directly from Contour (the maker) and had it in 2 days.

I got the white one, and while it did get dirty, it was easily washed with soap and water. Once I saw the black one in person though, I liked it much better. So, I tried to ruin mine in order to have a good reason to buy a black one.

Well, I didn't ruin it at all (dang it!), in fact, I like it better than black or white now. I used a combination of Golden Yellow and Scarlet RIT dye in hot tap water.... about a 2x stronger mix than it said on the package. The color sets in quick.. about 3-5 minutes to get a rich orange color, then a quick rinse and dry and I was in business. Also, the latch is real easy to take off (push the pin through with a paper clip), and that's what I'll do next time... the latch didn't take the dye much at all, just a little tint, which just looks kinda sloppy. I may get another whitey, just to play with some other colors... I see a light green Showcase in my near future.

Anyway, here's a pic...

That is so awesome about the dying. Could you explain the process in a bit more detail? I'm not familliar with RIT dye. (And honestly I'm just an all around idiot!) How did you not get teh clear parts of the showcase dyed?

Is RIT dye just a brand name? What would be similar to it in case I can't find it in Canada?

Wonder why Contour didn't make any of the coloured cases like the did for the 3g?

I reckon black!

well first off nice choice in choosing the showcase, its my 4th case ive gotten and its by far my favorite. i got the black and it looks absolutely awsome with the white on the ipod. all the white is just too much, i like a little bit of a change on it all.

I got lucky and & 'stumbled' across the Showcase. I'm convinced it's the best case (at least for the U2 iPod).

There's really no more than what I said in my post... the clear parts didn't react to the dye. RIT dye is just a brand... you can find it in just about any pharmacy or grocery store here in Portland, OR.

One more thing I should add, is that the color faded to about 75% of its "just-dyed" color... I like it even better still.

Thanks for the props, y'all.

Well, I originally ordered an iSee-20, but it was backordered(and the company didn't tell me), so I went ahead and got a black Showcase off of eBay($26.80 shipped), and I'm loving it. The thickness kind of sucks, but now it's about the same size and weight as my friend's Zen, so it's not that big of a deal...

The showcase photo and the showcase 40 are made of the same material right? I think I'm gonna dye it.

If I can't find some RIT dye at the arts and crafts store tommorow I think I'll try another dye. Either an avocado green, a lavender purple, or an electric blue. Any thoughts on colour choice?

Wish me luck!

I tried the dye job.

Dingy white showcase + black rit dye = annoying purple showcase.

Blech.

junaman, you can get the Contour Design Showcases in Australia. The official Australian Distributor can be found on the Contour website (http://www.contourdesign.com/unimouse_australia_dist.htm).

I purchased mine from Streetwise (www.streetwise.com.au). Places like Wicked Digital (www.wickeddigital.com.au) and Frequency Communications (www.frequency.com.au) also sell them. I purchased my two Showcases from Streetwise. Cheers.
