I don't know if this is somewhere, but I'm sure it is...however I have been searching and have yet to find anything.

So here's the question, I know you can hook your iPod up to your car stereo through an aux output in the back of the car stereo, but how do you know if your car stereo has an aux output? Thanks.

From what I understand most most radio's don't have them. Maybe if there is a users manual that might help. My local car audio dealer will create a hookup for $120. I've been thinking about it.

I don't know if it's an aux output or aux input that I'm looking for.

I don't have a stock stereo, I have an Alpine CMD-7833 and I've been searching the internet for anything, but I haven't found anything yet. I might just go to Best Buy today and see if they could help me out. It would be so much easier to just do the hookup through the aux output than to have to buy a stupid FM Transmitter.

Oh and I've been looking through the manual that came with my CD player and haven't found out much either.

Your car radio would need an input. You would insert a plug in the i-pod where the headphone plug goes (out put) and plug another end into the radio (input) so it can play the signal from the pod.

I know how it works, I just don't know if my car stereo has it or not...

Usually, if the manual doesn't say anything that's a pretty good hint that it doesn't have an aux input.

And an input is what you want. Aux output won't get you anywhere. Confusing input/output doesn't suggest to the reader that you know how it works, so you might not want to get snippy at folks who are trying to help you out. My apologies if I misread, but that is the impression I got here.

Assuming you mean an Alpine CDM-7833 instead of a CMD-7833, then it looks like there is no aux input. A google search on "alpine CDM7833 specifications" came up with this page (http://www.ifb.pl/~mateo/car-audio/manual/Alpine/alpine-head-cdm7833-spec-install.pdf). Doesn't show any aux inputs.

All is not lost though, it looks like it has M-Bus for a CD changer and there are aux input converters for that. See this one (http://www.logjamelectronics.com/piealpmrca.html). Probably be smart to call them up and double-check that it'll work before ordering though.
