My friend gave me his ipod which has 19gb full and was formatted for a mac. I have a pc and to use it, it is asking me to format it to be used on the pc (but I dont want to lose all my songs). How can I extract the songs to my pc so I can format it and then reload them on there?

Use the download section on the toolbar above and get 'EphPod' and you will have to purchase 'MacOpener' with it for it to read the iPod because windows will not read a Mac formatted iPod.
There is also PodUtil in the dl section under your OS.

Try connecting it first and see if it is already in disk mode, if not then you can use your friends mac.

Sorry to hear about your problem Raven, what you want to do is pretty hard so lets take it one step at a time, first off we need to get your PC able to recognize the mac file system (HFS+). If you are want, there is a free trial of MacDrive that should suit you fine.

Install that and windows will be able to mound the ipod (so goes the theory). If its in disk mode, it will show up in windows, then you can use podutil to extract the files. One step at a time though, try to get that ipod recognized in windows. Ignore itunes alltogether.
You know it is working and in disk mode when you are able to open my comptuer and browse its files. If you would like to use a chat program, I am more than willing to help you over that medium (and Ill post updates back here so IPL can play along). If that sounds like your cup of tea, PM me and we will set something up.
