I have a 97 Grand Am SE with Alpine CDE- 7870 ( i believe thats the right #) head unit and some other equipment. The problem I'm having is that my aux in ports are being used by my amplifier. Is there an aux splitter i could get so my iPod and my amplifier RCA's could go in to the same aux. in port? I dont have a changer port. The only port i have is my antenna, which is being used by an FM changer i never use anymore. If i took that out, is there a solution to hook my iPod into my antenna port? I refuse to continue to use my Belkin FM trans. That thing is a piece of garbage.

If I recall right - a 787x is an M-Bus unit...

If it is an MBus unit - you can convert the bus in to an aux in.

Which is what has me confused as you say you are using the Aux in already but for your AMPS????? why are your amps on an INPUT?????

To get multipe soures on a sing inpt you need a MIXER or a source selector, not a SPLITTER (a splitter takes one OUTPUT and sends it to multiple outputs)

You mentioned an Antenna port with an FM changer (which I ASSUME is an FM signal based CD changer)

And yes - IMHO the short rnage broadcast things are junk - I have one from 1992 - anyone want it?

One option is to take a close look at that FM CD changer thin - are their RCA connectors for the CD changer on it? Plug yer iPod into that (and use that (Free!)

I went out to the Alpine site and took a pekk at the manual
http://www.alpine-usa.com/
select Tech Center
Then select the Consumer site
search on 7870
click the manual

NEVERMIND - I have the 7874 which is the fancy (and MBus) version of the 7870....

Use the CD Changer's FM modular and plug yer iPod into that... if it works..

I tried that today. It was my only option. It didnt work. I realized i was talking out of my ### in my original post. I thought there were more input/ outputs on the back of my radio. Oh well :( I guess my only option is a wired FM modulator.

Huh?

Whadda ya mena it didnt work?
Did the CD changer ever play though the head unit?
Then it SHOULD work.

The problem is that the FM modular only works when the CD player is "on".

The cheezy hack is to stick a bunch of "junk" CDs into the changer (assuming you never want to listen to the changer), unplug the changer from the modular - plug the iPods LINE OUT (not the headphone out) into the RCA's where the CD changer was and then "play" the junk CDs on shuff while ya listen to the iPod....

The second best hack is to rip into the wiring harness for the CD changer to FM modular and figure out how to turn the FM modulator. You'll have to add a dash switch.

THe fancy way is to get a line leven signal sensor and wire that to a relay that with flip the switch FOR YOU when you plug the iPod in and play music.

If yer paying someone to to all of the above work - its cheaper to just jet a new head unit with an Aux in...
