When I disconnect my ipod (by doing the icon in the system tray), i get confirmation from my computer to go ahead and disconnect, however, the ipod never gives me confirmation. When I unplug it, it resets (with the apple logo and everything). It works fine, but i wonder if anyone on WINME ever gets the "ok to disconnect" message.

Every time I dock my iPod to recharge it I then have to disconnect it using the icon in the system tray. The iPod always disconnects and returns to the top level menu and then shows the battery charging shortly after that. I have noticed that the iPod manager icon remains connected in the system tray.

Does your iPod Manager icon in the system tray lose its red cross when you dock your iPod?
When I then disconnect mine the iPod Manager icon remains without the red cross but the iPod does return to the battery charging display.

My iPod is a 15GB 18 month old with dock connector. It uses iPod Software 2.0.1, part of which is the iPod Manager.
What type of iPod do you have? Perhaps it doesn't have the iPod Manager.

o. theres the problem. i got a 4g 20gb w/ firmware version 3.0.1
thanks for trying!
i had the same problem with my 4g 40gig under windows 2k. My laptop wouldnt run itunes and when i tried to disconnect it using th systray icon it remain on the do not disconnect screen.
The solution to my problem was to not use the systray icon, but to open my computer and right click my ipod drive. In the pop up menu i chose eject and my ipod would dismount properly.
I also then used the systray icon as it still listed the ipod as connected even though it was back to the main menu so im not sure this step is necessary

mmcfly8888 :
if you have 4G ipod it shouldnt say "ok to disconnenct." when you unmount the ipod it should go to the menu screen. apperantly the new firmware that the 4G ipod comes with eliminates that "ok to disconnect thing"
