i have copies of the same songs in my itunes how do i get rid of these???

Unfortunately, there's no quick and easy way to do this. You have to manually remove the duplicated.
However, you can quickly get a list of duplicate songs by going to the Edit menu and selecting "Show Duplicate Songs" This will show you every song in your library with duplicate track name and artist (regardless of album). You can then go through iTunes and delete these tracks as you normally would.
