I've hunted through these forums looking for an answer to this issue and I haven't found anything thus far. I recently installed a new mobo/cpu and upgraded to Windows XP. I backed up my library to DVD-R, however, importing againt to iTunes loses my play counts and more importantly my ratings. I have not been able to find a solution to this problem that does not involve reformatting my iPod to use a different software package which I do not want to do since it may be the only place that contains my ratings/play counts. I've tried using several software apps listed on these boards and though they transfer files to my PC fine and dandy, the play counts and ratings are lost when I import the files into iTunes.

Any help or direction would be appreciated.

use a program like http://www.copypod.net/ to copy the songs off the iPod and re-import them into iTunes, then re-sync to iTunes..... that is the only way I can think of keeping the ratings

Did you reformat your PC? Ideally, you should have also backed up your iTunes Library database files from your "My Music" folder. If you haven't completely reformatted your PC, but have just reinstalled Windows, you might be able to find these files still.... Search your hard drive for "iTunes Music Library.xml" and "iTunes 4 Music Library.itl". These files contain your ratings and playcounts.

Otherwise, use CopyPod as suggested above. It should allow you to restore your iPod back to your PC and rebuild these library files.
