I bought an iSkin for my 40gig iPod photo and it didn't really fit too well even tho they were advertised as being able to fit any "40 iPod or iPod photo". :p So that sucks. Anyway, I am going to get a 20 gig instead (don't think I'm crazy, read my post in iPod Stories forum before freaking out) and I now need a new case, seeing as the iSkin will be too big anyway. I was interested in the Timbuk2 cases and wondered if anyone here has one because I want their personal opinion. I found it in the iPodlounge reviews and kinda liked it.
I don't care about access to the wheel or screen, or connecting to the dock without taking it out of the case, so with that info, is this a good case for me? I just want something sturdy that will protect my iPod. :)
If you don't have one but want to give your opinion on wether it would work or not for me, here's what it is: Timbuk2 Cases (http://www.timbuk2.com/tb2/catalog/categories.t2;jsessionid=9DC82A909E4211BCB4AD90FB4 6EA75DC?categoryId=13)

I have the red version of this case which I actually use for my camera and not my ipod but it's fine, there's a small slip for earplugs in front and it can be velcroed onto a bag strap which is quite practical.
It does fine protecting my camera :)

I think it looks pretty ugly...

Thanks...I'm not a fan of iSkin now, not b/c it didn't fit the photo, but I just plain didn't like it. It was hard to get out of my pocket and always had cat hairs and lint on it. :p not very attractive or good for the iPod...
I'm not so concerned about what it looks like (as far as PDA-like, or bulky as long as it's not ginormous) as much as protection of my iPod. I can be clumsy at times and just randomly drop things, as well as forgetting it's in my bag or something. I want something bulky enough to protect it entirely. iSkins just don't cut it for me. :p Anyone have suggestions for leather/nylon/etc cases that aren't iSkin-esque that are less than 30 bucks or so? :) That'd be great. Thanks for the feedback!

less than 30 bucks is difficult to get the protection which I suspect you want - I have a waterfield ipod case which costs a bit more (http://www.sfbags.com/products/ipodcase/ipod.htm) but I'd definitely recommend it.

Nice case...:) Love it but I don't think I could afford it at the moment...and won't be able to for some time, seeing as I have no steady income...;) heheh! I just want a case where I can take it somewhere without worrying about killing it. Any case not kin to iSkin is okay by me...Any other suggestions? :D

I like this one better than the iSkin which I have now. The iPod photo did fit on the iSkin but I had to push it so hard that it took me like 15 minutes to put it on, I think Ima buy that case and return the iSkin. Hopefully I can return it.

Wait, does this one have a hole 4 the click wheel?

The Timbuk2 one? No, all the iPod surfaces are covered. I don't mind not having access to the clickwheel, tho. :)
I also liked the case on that link. Gorgeous, but too pricey for me. :(
I saw one of these at the Apple store and I might get it. Its Timbuk2, so its built tough. It has huge velcro binds on the back to attach to the wide straps on a messenger bag...it could be used for a belt as well, but you'd better plan on taking your belt off to remove it (the velcro is HUGE). It would attach to your belt sideways if you used it for that.
Since its cloth, you can fast forward & pause with it in the container; I've tested this. That's all I need most of the time.

I have both a Timbuk2 and an iSkin, and I prefer the iSkin because of the access to the click wheel. However, if you don't mind not having access to the wheel, then I completely recommend the Timbuk2 case. It is well padded, encompassing, and straps onto a Timbuk2 messenger bag really well.

i have the black timbuk2 case attached to my messanger bag. i have no complaints about it whatsoever because it serves the purpose that it states that it does. the lining is pretty soft and plushy. i have dropped the ipod in the case quite a few times and everything has been fine. also, it stays on the bag or whereever you put it fantastically because the velcro on it is quite big and powerful. i recommend it highly if this is the type of case that you'd like to get.

It sounds awesome, but I don't have the said messenger bag, and while the velcro sounds like it would attach to a few bags I do have, I want to know exactly HOW thick it is, because someone else told me it is VERY thick but anyway, it sounds like it would serve its purpose (to protect!! :D) So thanks!

hey guys. any of you who own this know if a 4G 20GB already wearing an iSkin would fit in the Timbuk2 case?
i already have the iSkin and am pretty happy with it, however, in the summertime when i have less pockets, i'd like to have another case to carry it around in. i'm thinking of getting a new bag from timbuk2 and was considering getting the ipod case to match.
thanks

The 20GB is thin enough to fit in the case with a skin in one dimension, but the side fit is rather snug so I doubt it would fit.
However, I don't own an iSkin so I can't check that for sure - I know it doesn't fit with DLO's thicker silicone skin.
That said, if you're going to be leaving it in the Timbuk2 case for the majority of the time, you can easily get by without a skin - My iPod is completely unskinned and I rely on the Timbuk2 case to carry it everywhere. The horizontal orientation of the loop in the back makes it fit sleeky along my belt, and is almost unnoticable in terms of weight and pressure.

thanks for the reply. hm. i have some thinking to do, i guess. i like my iSkin and would rather leave it on all the time. i don't like handling the iPod bare (the first few weeks i owned it without a case it was scratched even with the utmost care).
my ideal would be a case-within-a-case. i could always keep it in the iSkin and then, when i'm bike riding or walking around in the warmer weather, i could put it in the Timbuk2 and attach that to my messenger bag. it's a shame it won't fit!
i still wonder, though. if this case is meant for the 40GB as well, it would have to allow a little extra room than what is needed for the 20GB, so maybe it will work. i just don't wanna gamble the $20 to find out it doesn't. :)

If you have an Apple store nearby, they usually have the Timbuk2 cases on a rack - you could always try it out there.

I have the Timbuk 2 case and I find it suits my needs.
pros:
- perhaps one of the most protective cases out there
- hides the ipod - with my black earphones and brown case no one knows what it is
- no lint-attracting rubber
cons:
- I do find that I take it out of the case occasionally to use the wheel or check the song title
- It is a little bulky, I put it in my front pocket but I wouldn't imagine any women being able to put it in their tight fit pockets.
The best thing is that it is only $20. Go buy one at the apple store and return it after a few days if you dont like it.
After all that said - if they could come out with a i-Skin type case which has a less grippy/sticky exterior, I would buy it.

I'm curious if anyone tried the new Timbuk2 redesigned iPod case. The top cover is just small velcro strap that covers the left corner of the iPod.
Edges of the stretch material on both sides are sewed and extended into the inner lining. I'm concerned if the rough edges would scratch the iPod because the lining edges are facing inwards.
