Windows 98 + USB + iPod 4G = iPod Win98 USB driver (http://www.mhobot.w.pl/ipod).

That driver has been downloaded more than 8000 times since it was published in September '04.
The newest version of driver even supports iPod Photo...

I recently put all my songs on my ipod (15GIG) so what is the chance that I will need to re-format???

If you put music on iPod that means it is formatted. There are two possibilities:
1. iPod has been formatted under Windows (2000/XP). It would work under Windows 98 without any reformatting.
2. iPod has been formatted under MacOS. You should reformat it under Windows 2000/XP to work correctly under Windows 98.

So the chance you will need to re-format is 50% :)

If believe to some posts from here, then Win 98/me is suficient to reformat iPod. updater extracts actual program to reformat iPod in temporary folder, so you need just catch it and use.
