I am running out of hard drive space on my lap top and would would like to use an external hard drive as the primary storage for my music. How do I set it up so that itunes stores and acceses the external drive rather than my lap top.

Thanks

Under the "options" in iTunes you can configure it to look to any folder as your music folder. It doesn't matter whether it's an internal drive or not.

Hi, I read your discussion with interest. I just tried to load itunes library onto a 20 gig lacie external HD. It looked like everything was stored. Then I put all my songs from itunes library in the trash. Then I went back to the external HD, but nothing was there. I reimported songs from trash to itunes library on the mac, and the songs reappeared again on the external HD, but also appeared to have sucked up twice as much gig space on exernal HD. (started with 18 gig free; first wave of songs took up 4.5 and second reimport apparantly took up same, so now I only have about 9 gig free on HD--and there doesn't seem to be a way to view how to clear out any duplicates.) Clearly a user error here--I'd be grateful for tips on went wrong.
