*Knock On Wood

Ok when I was looking up all I could on the Ipod while it was in transit I panicked...because I thought EVERY SINGLE IPOD had a problem, which is not fair or true. Lets make all the people waiting for their precious piece of gold feel better by telling everyone about the "perfect" ipods that we have.

My "Perfect" Ipod is Dax, and she has had only 1 small mishap that was easily corrected.

Mine was perfect....then I opened the box and within 5 minutes I had fingerprints all over and somehow managed to get a bunch of tiny scratches getting it into the sportsuit case. Oh yeah and the fact i smooshed the right earbud on the apple headphones (not a big loss, really) with the car door.

Would love to know about your mishap.

there is no perfect gadget in the world because human makes them. human is not perfect. therefore, everysingle ipod has problem or potential to be caused trouble.
I didn't say that my ipod is perfect (so far it's just been fine) but I really take care about it. as you know, we have to prepare some unexpected event for ipod. like reading all kind of problems, how to replace battery, remove scratches, disk problem, etc.

I did have a slight glitch at first with a non-functional firewire card, but once I got a working one, there have been no problems. I plugged the new card in my PC, booted it up, connected my iPod, and it's all worked just fine ever since, including doing iPod software and iTunes version upgrades.

My small mishap was that the ipod wouldn't work with the dock correctly...my dock ended up being screwed up so I returned it. I don't use it now because my ipod is always in its case.

That's because only those with problems post here and those of use that don't have any are not the ones doing the posting.

I have a 3G, 30 Gig (that is 15 months old) and a 4G, 60 Gig (purchased 12/22/04) and both work problem free.

My iPOD photo is perfect, and i'll tell you why

* I've put movies on its hard drive, to take with me everywhere
* I've put photos, that I can view on the screen and on a TV
* I've put music
* I've added text-based jokes to the Notes folder, to read whenever I'm bored
* I listen to several podcasts!

I had a few light scratches but Brasso got rid of that and now its perfect again!

Yes the iPods are machine made, but those machines are also human made so same thing applies. They too aren't perfect. :D :p

I had a small problem with a "corrupt file" that was easily fixed by resetting the iPod (menu+select) and now it's perfect again. Other than that, no problems whatsoever. Knock on wood. :)

So far.. iv had my Ipod for..8 days... and theres no problems whatsoever.. when i first got my ipod i wasn't sure what to espect.. would it would with windows?would Itunes work? i heard alot of bad stuff going on with the programs and what not.. but i got it anyway.. i set it up..connected it..and everything went smoothly..nothing was wrong with it..
I must say though.. the 2nd day i had it..i cleaned it with a damp cleaning clothe..and i wiped the click wheel..and for about 3 hours the click wheel just stoped working..after a while it started working again.. but its not a good idea to get it wet..even with the slightest bit of moisture..

I've had mine for two weeks - taken it winter camping, snowboarding, bmxing, etc. and because of the photo display, it's been passed around the table at many fine bars and pubs...
I have had no problems with it whatsoever - it's been awesome.

Other than a few pinhead user errors, my photo ipod works flawlessly.
The ability to hold tons of music, pictures and audiobooks and take it with me wherever I go is just incredible.
Add to that it was a gift from my wife, pretty much perfect.

My first iPod (Oct 2004) was pretty heavily scratched, but otherwise had no problems until the harddrive inexplicably broke. Got a new one from Apple in 5 days. (Jan 2005)

Now, cosmetically my iPod has a fine scratch on the back that I have no idea how it got there. My earbuds are stained black in some parts, and again I have no idea how that happened.

Two days after getting it iTunes said the software needed to communicate with the iPod was corrupted and I had to reinstall and reload my 20GB of music again.

Nothing that hasn't been easily fixed.

My iPod is perfect... except...

I wish it was wireless, so I can dock from across the room... and forget 802.11a-z... it ought to be Pre-N

And I wish it was bluetooth ready so I can use BT headphones with it and eliminate those damn wires!

And I wish it had a touchscreen so I can enter text instead of having to sync with some PIM...

And I wish that the chromed back didn't pick up so many fingerprints so I wouldn't have to use a static fil to cover it....

And I wish the ENTIRE iPod was scratch-proof so I wouldn't have to use a silicone skin over it...

*sigh*

And no I don't wanna watch video on a dinky 3" screen. I wouldn't be able to see the detail on all my porn! LOL!

I had a 1g 5gb, 2g 20gb, and a 4g 60gb iPod photo, and the only problem i EVER had was with my 1g 5gb ipod, which just fipped out and started shuffling songs, then fast-forwarding through them uncontrollably. It was swapped out by apple, and perfect performance ever since, for the last 3 or 4 years.

As my signature shows, I've gone through many iPods, Only the first one gave me problems, and as stated before, that was user generated. So All my iPods have been perfect.

I don't give a toss for how it looks, and don't use a case, its a portable device, and its going to get scratched, I'm giong to upgrade it in a mattero f motnhs again, so it makes no odds to me!

The one way it isn't perfect, is that although capable, it doesn't play video. I'm torn, because I love the UI, and the size, but can't stand the fact that Apple don't give you certain features...This is also displayed in the shuffle fake, exactly the same, only better, and only $20 more. If something like that came out for the iPod photo, I'd get it in a snap. Something that has music, video, and photo playback. And looked the same is priceless...

The only downside, is that it wouldn't be iTunes compatible.

The only problem I've had since August is that sometimes when my iPod's docked for a long time, it freezes iTunes. That's resolved by simply taking my iPod out of the dock, however. Other than that, it's been flawless.

I have a perfect 60 Gig Photo even though I'm not using iTunes. I use Anapod primarily because 60 Gigs is more then I have on my laptop, so ipod holds all my music for me. (a backup hard drive has been made offline in case of disaster).
Working quite well, listening to Audible book right now!

My Gen 1: Only problem was the battery had to be replaced at the two year mark.

My Gen 2: Bought it on E-Bay as "broken" fixed it in 30 Min, works great.

My Gen 3 (wifes): No problems at all, over ayear old.

My iPod Photo: No problems so far.

My iPod Shuffle: No problems so far.

My 3G 20Gig iPod has gone through so much, amazinly it is still workin, well kinda. Though i have been a ipod user for a year now i have gone through 2 iPods. My 3G iPod lasted 8 months before a sudden end to it's life. It simply was roughend to much with an the time i had it and simply the hardrive spun then stopped in a screechin sound. Not a sound you would want to here but the apple warranty gave me a new one for 10 dollars. It is currently 7 months old and still going strong. It has been dropped 2 times but no damage and still a strong going iPod. But now, the new 30 gig iPod Photo's is just something i had to get so i got one. Only 3 days old, i am still amazed at it's design and features. So i couldn't say perfect cause nothing is perfect but in vocab i can say both iPods so far are perfect for now.

-My 4G, 60GB - no problems and works great - purchased 12/04

-My Shuffle 1GB - works without any problems also brand new -3/05

Well, I've had problems with occasional lock-ups, and the one time I tried to use it with Realplayer (and had to re-format the disk to get iTunes to see it again - thanks Apple). And one time I left it connected to the computer, and had to reset it to get the computer to see it again.

But these were all solvable (and except for the lock-ups, avoidable) problems. So I'm not unhappy with the reliability.

I have yet to have a problem with my 40GB ipod photo. Don't hear the "noise" that people talk about and the battery is way better than my 15GB 3rd gen ipod. My friend also has the 40GB photo and it is fine. I recommend the 40GB photo to anyone looking to get one.

I'm knocking vigorously on wood as i post this (so i'm a little superstitious, sue me), but here goes:

the only problem i had was one week into my iPod's life it seemed like the hold switch was broken. when engaged the lock icon would not come on and it would not work. the very day i was going to drive an hour away to take it back to the Apple store, it began to work again and has never messed up since except for the occasional need to be reset (But it is formatted for Windows, so that's not a big shocker for me)

my ipod is perfect with the exception of a few fixable scratches.

-i have about 3000 songs, all tagged perfectly, and ALL the album art is working.
-there's my school schedule in it in the notes section.
-i have a trailer for a movie cut up into pictures so i can watch the video on the ipod by scrolling the wheel.
-i have ipodlinux on it up and working, with lots of games and cool things.
the battery works great, and it's only frozen once.

now for video functionality and crossfading, hehe.

There was this little blue mark on my wheel, and I thought it would come off with nail polish remover. BUt instead, the plastic on it was all screwed and now, I have a small area with a bigegr mark on it.

anyway I could fix that?

do i need to use Apple Care?

well my iPod was perfect, i got it in February, and until my skin arrived, i used the iPod belt clip which left several marks from where it got pushed in and pulled out etc, anyone know how to get them out? On the front, when my skin did arrive, the screen protector didnt do its job and ive got marks all over my screen in exactly the same places where the screen protector sustained damaged. Are there anyway to get those out? My middle of my clickwheel's also got some random scratches on it too and i dont know how because i only took the plastic off it a month ago when i was on holiday. I'm thinking of getting them out and selling it to get ready for whatever new iPod that is coming out. It's a 60gb iPod photo by the way.

I haven't had any technical hitches really, just had to reset iPod a couple times.

As soon as I got my new iPod, I went out and got this case:

http://www.ipodlounge.com/index.php/reviews/comments/contour-design-showcase-4g/

To this point, I don't have a single scratch--the only evidence that the iPod is used is the wear on the click wheel. I LOVE this case.

Edit: Get the black case--I've heard that the white one has a tendency to get grimy and is hard to clean.

Also, amazon.com has a great deal on this item.

I JUST bought a new iPod 30GB Photo and the night I bought it I took it out with me. I thought it would be perfect for music in the car (which it was) but when I get back inside the house I take it out after a good nite and there's a huge dent in the back. Still not sure how it got there, but the iPod is workin fine (*knock on wood*).

Also got a deal at Target for my iTrip and my PowerPod for $25 each. BestBuy for the inCase Leather Folio. I just wanted to convey my sheer satisfaction with quality and ease of installation. I can only wish this upon all first-time buyers.

My 3rd gen ipod 20gb certainly isn't perfect. My PC has regular problems recognising it and when I unplug it it reboots before being usable. It also skips tracks during use and the battery is now down to about 5 or 6 hours :(

After being used daily for 18 months I think I'd be falling apart too...

Just replaced it with a 4th gen 60gb ipod which seems to be okay so far :)

Bought a 20 gb U2 ipod 2 weeks ago, going like a dream. All album art and tags are perfect, all tunes now ripped at 128 AAC. Sound as good as the 320 MP3.

I have a... Mini... no where from being perfect... no where. Well where do I start... so about 1 week after i purchaced it the iPod had 2 major chips in it (a couple days later I got a skin). 2 weeks after the menu button didn't work, so I returned it. And now... the << button has a really loud "click" sound when I press it. Its louder than the select button click. So its a small problem but it annoys me... because my sister did it! Well its still works fine. Lost the reciep though...

I just bought a 20gig color screen ipod and a podfreq. "I am freqing AMAZED!" I was instantly converted to a POD FREAQ!

I am usually the guy that buys the 1 in 100 that breaks, craps out, or has a brain fart and needs to be returned!

MY iPod IS PERFECT! It even has a "PERFECT" scratch that makes it even more perfect!

I pluged it in ~ updated the software and it synced all 736 songs from my PC to the ipod in less than 5 minutes.

IT ROCKS! ... POD POD POD ... I LOVVVVE MY POD! ... I COULD KISS MY POD! ... I COULD ..."better stop now"...

Anybody touchs my pod ... their gonna get boinked !

When your Pod is perfect ... the World is perfect !

I heard Microjerk is trying to take a bite out of the Apple though ... as if they aren't chewing on enough of the world already!

They need to call their Pod the gPod ... for ... "greedyPod" ... !

I'm calling mine the pPod ... for ... "PERFECT" Pod ... ! YEAH !

OHHH! Calm ... Calm ... Calm ... Sry ... drinking too many BAWLS!

I got my 40gig photo for Christmas last year and I haven't had a problem in the world with it. Of course, I have Win ME so I couldn't use iTunes myself, and had to give it to a friend whose brother uploaded my CDs to it, but as far as using it, I haven't had any problems at all.

And my battery seems to be something out of the ordinary...Once, I went on a trip and couldn't find the charger or dock so I figured I'd use it until the battery ran out...it took a week and it didn't actually die until we were almost home. I used to for several continuous hours most of the time with the backlight on every day...the battery icon at the top turned red on the 3rd day, but like I said, it didn't actually die until the day we got back (day 6)...

So I'd have to day my iPod is absolutely perfect for me! I put a scrape on each of the top two corners (stupid me, forgot it was not in its iSkin, but in the case provided with your iPod on my hip and tried to do a pirouette...needless to say, it did not stay on my hip) and there's some odd star-shaped scratch on the back but it just makes it all the more perfect. :)

I was scared when I got mine because I too had read stories about really messed-up iPods, but....yayness!

Drjones
08-14-2005, 03:56 PM
Since I recieved my iPod, I guess I can now post here and say that it seems pretty perfect.

I've only had it since Friday, but so far, so good.....only thing is that it is quite time intensive getting all 5,000 or so of my mp3's organized and tagged properly!

I wish there was some way that each song was uniquely identified so that you could just hook up to some internet database and have the tags automatically done perfectly for you....

Other than that, the pod itself seems "perfect."

The Monster iCarPlay kinda sucks. For popular music it is OK but it is unacceptable for classical; waaaaaaaay too much static.

I'm probably going to run a line from my stereo into the cabin, so that should solve that problem.

Quite a bit of trouble and expense for this whole thing, but I think it will be worth it once I get it all dialed in; no more lugging around two fat CD wallets with 400 CD's!!!

Well after some trepidation I finally ordered my 60 Gig color and it is flawless! The synch was effortless and the sound quality is perfect -- no static, no distortion, no skips. Photos worked brilliantly too!

Given all the posts about sound quality I was delighted to get this flawless unit! I suspect Apple may have quietly fixed the problems.

I should say that I use very high quality earphones at 23 impedance but with high sensitivity. if there was anything wrong with this unit I would certainly have been able to hear it!

Perfect so far--almost two months. One minor scratch when I dropped it the first week, but you'd have to look hard to find it. Got a case the next day. Also working well in terms of connecting to my Macmini. So I'm loving it. Still gotta get the extended warranty, though.

I've had my 20g Photo for about two weeks now, and I'm enjoying it alot. I can't see how I lived without it now. Got most of my music loaded from a Windows machine, and enjoying podcasts and some audiobooks, too.

I also bought it from Best Buy with a 10% off coupon. They got me back on the warranty though!

My fav accessories are the iHome clock radio and the FM tuner. Tomorrow will be my first auto trip of three hours with it. Looking forward to some easy listening!
