Yesterday I read on slashdot about iPod Linux (www.ipodlinux.org) and I was drawn in instantly. I use linux myself on my desktop so I was like "Cool! Linux on my iPod". So I followed the instructions of installing and it went very smooth. It installs as a dual boot for apple OS so you have both still. It has a mp3 player in it and it has more games like pong, othello, tetris, minesweeper. I also found a awesome feature that lets you use your left earbud as a microphone so no need for the 30 dollar microphone for the iPod. Its not the greatest at playing mp3s because they haven't figured out how to make the CPU and the memory communicate very well. It works better on mp3s at a bitrate of 128kbs or lower so its ok. Try it out everyone let me know what you think too.

PS: Oh yeah sorry it doesn't work on 4th gen or minis :( sorry.

What I was wondering about that was:

When you start up your iPod, do you have to choose every time? Or can you set it up so that it boots into normal iPod software unless you do a key combination?

Yer, how on earth did they get the left earbud to act as a mic? Someone please explain.

I am confused, how the heck can you get the left earphone to act as a mic. It sounds pretty cool though, too bad I have a 4G.

Plug a pair of earphones into the MIC socket of your PC. Then start up sound recorder, or what ever Mac people use, start recording and sing down the headphones. Then play it back. It wasn't much of a technological feat to get the iPod to do this

yeah because earbuds/headphones are almost the same circuitry as a mic so that isn't a technological breakthrough. And if you have Apple OS as the default OS you must hold the previous key when the apple comes up when you reboot to go to linux.
