confused about ripping...help!

I am very new at this, and quite confused. Can anyone explain to me what I would use to rip Cds onto my laptop? How exactly would I do this? Also, if anyone can tell me more about Ephpod2 and what exactly it does? I haven't gotten my ipod yet, I am anxiously awaiting it, but I need to get this stuff cleared up first. Also, right now I have MMJB on my computer with mp3s on it, should I uninstall this? Any at all help or advice you can give me would be awesome, thanks so much.

search EAC on google, and download it. This software will grab the music.

http://members.rogers.com/pjstasyna/lame.rar <--- Download the rar file, and put the .exe into the EAC folder, this is what will compress the already grabbed music.

Ephpod is the tool used for uploading/deleting/etc on the iPod, it manages music.
