Happy Holidays All,

My new 4G 40GB iPod (HP) arrived yesterday and frustrated me through much of the night.

I installed iTunes (4.7) and connected my iPod to my computer so as to begin adding songs to it. Much to my dismay, I found this more difficult than I thought it would be.

To begin, even after added all the songs I wanted to my iPod, my iPod continued to say "Do Not Disconnect." I tried ejecting the iPod and was told that another program was in use and I could not eject the iPod.

What's up with this? Any ideas?

After going to bed frustrated, I planned to uninstall iTunes and to use the iPod updater to completely reset my iPod. Essentially, I was going to start again from square one. However, while I was able to uninstall iTunes, when I tried to reset my iPod through the iPod updater program (11/15/04 version), I was told that my iPod could not be reset.

What does this mean? Any ideas?

More than anything, I am concerned that I am having so many problems so early with my iPod. My roommate has one and has had no such problems. Another friend has one and the same can be said for her.

Help...
Warmly,
Ryan Wilkes

my first solution would be to stop (restrict access) to all other media player programs. If you're using windows, (which I presume you are if you have an hp ipod, uninstalled itunes, and just generally have problems with the computer) then something like real player or windows media player will try to hyjack the ipod. If you're using the automatic update on itunes, then once it updates, it'll usually eject the ipod. just check the processes you have running. If that doesnt work, and all the music is on the ipod, the just unplug the ipod. If its stil reading the do not disconnect thing, then do a reset on it (play and menu for a few seconds)

I had this problem too, but it seemed to have stoped after i updated iTunes or updated my iPod version. An easier way is too listen to the iPod, if you dont hear the hard drive spinning then you can safely disconnect the iPod.
