My ipod is coming soon, and I would like to upgrade my pc (933, win 2000 pro) to usb 2.0. I know that the ipod will work with usb 1, cause a friend of mine has firewire and usb 1. He's tried with both and assured me that it works, albeit a bit slower.

Before I dump any money on a USB 2.0 card for my pc, I wanna be sure that I have the right slots for it. It seems as though firewire ports require PCI 2 slots, while USB 2 ports take old fashioned PCI slots? In the attached image, I have several of the slots on the left available, which are PCI slots if I'm not mistaken.
In all the images though, it seems like I need the (PCI 2?) slots that are on the right? Is that correct?

I'm sorry if this was not the right forum...it didn't seem to fit anywhere else. Hopefully someone can clear this up for me. :)

the shorter slots are for PCI, the usb card. the longer ones are for RAM. dont rely on my knowledge though. get confirmation from someone else, as i dont have a desktop. i use a laptop.

Yeah, I just threw some more ram into slots like the ones on the left. But the usb 2.0 pci cards I looked at don't look like they would fit in there.
*EDIT*

Well, it looks like firewire takes the pci slot i have, but usb 2 doesn't.

Can someone tell me if 3g ipod charges through firewire on pc? Or do I need to charge through the old charger?

It should charge, as long as the FireWire port is powered.
