These guys are awesome. Influences include Radiohead and U2. They have sample tracks that are definitely worth a listen. I have the album "The Translation" and it is great all the way through. This would be a regular listen for me even if they weren't local. They've gotten some play on XM radio and in the backround on a couple of MTV's horrendous reality shows. On a side note... why does MTV frequently play good music (IMO) on their reality shows but stick to top 40 junk with their videos? Oh well, that rant is for another post...

See my website (admitted self reference) openingbands.com (http://www.openingbands.com) for a slew of local and regional band listings for the Central IL and Chicago IL areas... Feel free to submit your bands to our list especially if you play shows in the chicago or champaign areas!
Some of my favorites:
Lorenzo Goetz (http://www.lorenzogoetz.com)
Absinthe Blind (http://www.absintheblind.com)
The Pitch (http://www.thepitchingmachine.com)
And the place I started that website in, Champaign Illinois, was home to REO Speedwagon (oooh), and Hum (serious big OOH! but they're broken up)...
umm, we have an AMAZING band from my school, a group of High School seniors who make super music. It's amazing... these kids do covers of songs more musically (and stylishly) correct than the originals. They have been a band for over 5 years, and all have been playing for way longer than that time. Unfortunately, there is NO information about them online, odd because they've played local concerts and won contests and stuff.
They're called "I'm a loner, Dottie, A Rebel". I hate the name.
also, my band director's brass band (which is actually really cool) is at www.kingpinbrassband.com . It's a whole bunch of 20somethings that play brass instruments and make some hot hot music. The site is being built as we speak...

Well its not really a local band, but there's some good folk/rock at http://carbonleaf.com. There are about 30 or 40 songs for download. They also have some other songs on amazon.com.

I'll update mine...
Cloning Friday no longer exists... my friend, one of the members, has since had about three bands, none of which exist anymore.
The Creation of Nothing is, however, still playing together (though to a lesser extent, most members being in different, but local, colleges, with just one still in high school).
You can see them at creationofnothing.cjb.net
The Hoax is incredibly popular (more so than CON), using the tagline "Bergen Punk since 1999", but I don't know their web address.
Or, if you don't mind my advertising myself, I play solo and with anyone else my songs (or covers, for charity events) may require, as In Name Only. I'm on MySpace (not that I update it very often), but there's a recording for download of just me playing Folsom Prison Blues at the Batavia VA Medical Center.

We offer all our iPod friendly mp3's of our instrumental music for free download from our website. You can remix, edit, cut, smashup, trashup and anything you want just turn us on to what you create so we can enjoy it. We are currently working on our second release of songs but you can always get all our previous cutz for free download.
We do not create music in any one style, we just create what we feel at the time. Jazz, trance, blues, rock, hard rock, country, rap, fusion, spoken word and anything else we can get our hands on influences us and how we create. Our second disc will have totally different kinds of music on it, working on a new track that is based off of some tribal drums and a pink floyd influence, but also doing an original cover of Cateloupe Island. There is also a more Sabbath/Dixie Dregs cut in the works, so in short we have no set style.
The Dejunair Project (http://www.dejunair.com) will also be posting our raw tracks in ogg and wav format for free download in the future for anyone to use and/or remix.
Enjoy,
McStrum

From San Luis Obispo, CA, California is a band called Instar. It's a "nom-de-Rock" of Karl von Kries' studio recording project, and the name of his live band when he plays out with other musicians.
Check out Instar website at http://www.instarmusic.com. A bunch of songs under a Creative Commons license are given away for free at http://www.instarmusic.com/music.html.
The band is working on their third film with New York animator Pat Smith (see http://www.patsmith.com ). You can check out some clips on the video page at http://www.instarmusic.com/videos.html.

- A wicked acoustic singer song writer. Really scratchy, unique voice
Oil On Canvas (http://www.themusicmag.com/unsigned-music/oil-on-canvas/)
- I really think they could have tunes on the radio, make people dance, and get a bit of buzz going about them. Their music is really fun.
