Ok. I am jinxed. After a week of utter problems trying to get my iPod configured to Windows XP after synching all my songs, I managed to format it all with the 2004-11-15 Updater.

iTunes recognised my iPod and started transfering my files to my iPod. BUT halfway through, I received this message:

"Attempting to copy to the disk "XXXXX" failed. An unknown error occurred (-36)."

I have no idea what this means, and this has not happened when I first transferred my files (from the 2004-08-06 Updater).

I went to the Apple documentation site, nothing but in regards to improper memory used to burn CDs. Um, I'm transferring direct from my HDD (from iTunes) to my iPod. This really sucks.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers!

Update. Ok, I just clicked ok on the error screen and continued transfering files by highlighting them in my Library and dragging it to my iPod in the Source List.

BUT it cuts out! After a few songs transferred, it just stops! HELP!

No doubt i love ipod..but...please..please...the trouble of having to reformat it...and i can't get all my songs in one click and i'm leaving overseas next day...SOMEONE HELP....i'm starting to hate this freakin' IPOD!!! ....

I reckon it's the new 4G iPods and their firmware. My transfer is also through the USB 2.0 port. And the new Updater (2004-11-15) suppose to IMPROVE connectivity with the USB ports.

Now, I can't "Drag & Drop" OR "File->Add To Library" directly after resetting my computer. I can only "Drag & Drop" into a mesely playlist, AND then select those files and "Drag & Drop" them into the Library......MORE work!

is some info about your error -36, but it seems that iPod, usb, win xp don't always co-perate very well...

the error -69 is a check sum error. have you also got the latest quick time cien_yang?

Hey YinYang, as i've mentioned, i'm using a firewire. And...i used 4.6 before and THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS AT ALL i can transfer the songs quick and satisfied...then problem started when i used the 4.7!! I had to drag the songs several times before i can transfer it to my ipod, the library automatic update..heck no...it didn't work..all failed..i had to do it manually..and it's taking alot of time...

What's the use of DiskMode? when i reinstall my itunes it was unable to complete the installation ... and i had to terminate it.

do you know any webmail address directed to the Apple Customer Service ... i just wanna pop up and say hello to them and mention HOW GREAT THEIR PRODUCTS AND CUSTOMER SERVICE IS.................they don't know s**t about IPOD.....

i called them up at 6 o clock in the morning....explain to them....THEY FREAKIN' TOLD ME TO GO TO AN APPLE STORE........or buy their extended warranty.......

i feel like i'm entitled to conclude for breach of warranty....in Canadian Legal Action for my quiet enjoyment !!! Well if the product is defective, i know i can return it...BUT I DON'T HAVE THE TIME...i have to leave tomorrow..!! :( ....

So what do you think ...Yin? Its -69 problem....btw not -36. The money i spent on the much more anticipated product...just went down in the drain and frankly i'm so dissatisfied with this so called hype of the MP3 player...holy smoke..!!

Sry for my babblin' :p

this is what i've found on apple forums that look helpful re error -69:

http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx?14@695.f8VAa3ThEEd.11@.6893da9c

you may want to apply the microsoft patch for fw devices

this one talks about uninstalling sp2, however i don't think that is necessarily a good thing....

http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx?128@695.f8VAa3ThEEd.9@.689e6c5c

also when you uninstall iTunes do you also remove the iPodservice.exe service in your task manager?

hope some of that helps!
