Ipod making whirrling boot up sounds

I use my ipod 4g every other day. I notice sometimes it just turns directly on, other times when I press a button it will first "boot up" with the apple logo, make some whirling hard drive sounds, then work normally.

Is this normal to do this????

yes, if you leave the iPod sitting for 48 hours or more it goes into what apple calls deep sleep, where it pretty much turns of fand when you wake it up it takes longer, since it's basically booting up. The hardrive would make noise since it has moving parts inside that make noise, hope this helps :)
