Hi there! Has anyone experienced the following error when connecting their iPod for the first time.

"The installation failed because a function driver was not specified for this device instance."

My iPod is recognized by my computer as a USB Mass Storage Device, not as an iPod.

I'm at a loss as to what I can do to remedy the problem.

thx

You have the disk that came with the iPod, try reinstalling everything from the beginning and just skip the format part.

Thanks HoneyBee, I do have the CD. I uninstalled and reinstalled as per your recommendations, however when it came time to connect the iPod, my Dell computer gave me the same error. I was wondering whether someone with Win2K could check the properties window for their iPod and tell me what the Windows driver is that is being used for their iPod. My Dell computer is recognizing usb.inf as the driver.

thanks very much,

Tony

LeoTR: Do you have Service Pack 4 installed for Win2k? If not, I think you need it for the iPod to work properly with Win2k.
