I've heard countless times that the Grado SR-60s are the best headphones you can get for $70. Now, the problem is, in some pictures of the headphones, it appears that the headphones don't go over your ears, but instead, just rest on top of them. It seems as if the earpieces are made of just big pieces of foam that aren't cut out to fit your ear.
I don't want something like this; it'd be uncomfortable, and it'd probably allow a lot of sound leak, which I don't want.
Now, the $100 Grado SR-80s seem like they do go over your ear, but I've heard that they're awful without an amp. I don't want an amp.
So, for those of you with SR-60s, are they comfortable? Are they just big pieces of foam that go over your ear?
For those with SR-80s, do they sound bad without a headphone amp?
And also, can people recommend headphones under $100?

I have the SR 60's and I use them at home mostly. Very rarely do I use them when I'm out. As far as the sound quality goes I love it. It's like having large speakers on and great bass. As for comfort I use these headphones for hours on end. They can be adjusted. The best I would tell you is to get them from someplace that has a 30 day money back guaranty like (http://www.headphone.com). This way you can return them if you don't like them. They also come with a 1 year warranty from the manufacturer and should be registered.
They also sound good without an amp. I purchased them after reading a zdnet.com review on the Grado headphone. The SR 60's were the ones they said sounded good with the iPod and other protable mp3 players unamped. I wasn't disappointed when I listened to them and am very happy with my purchase.
You can also check at (www.head-fi.com) for info on head/earphones. It is a very good source of information.

That the SR80's need an amp is just a rumor, they work like any other headphones, plug 'em into your iPod. I highly reccomend buying the SR80s! They are simply THE BEST headphones you can buy for under $100. I reccomend the SR80s over the cheaper SR60s because they have improved bass/

Patman, both the SR-60 and SR-80 are supraaural, meaning the rest on the ear not around it. Even the bowl pads on the SR-80 won't take the driver off your ear. This has nothing to do with leakage, however. All Grados will leak sound because the back of the driver is open. That's part of the sound signature. Something like a Sennheiser HD650 fits completely around your ear, but that headphone is also open air, so it will leak sound just like the Grados.
Therefore, using the Grados in a loud environment would not be ideal.

Get the Ety!!!!! Just got mine and they are amazing. At first, I thought the er-6i were lacking in bass..but after learning how to put them in correctly solved the bass problem. Go Ety over the e3c. I have no experience with Grado 60 or 80 but I AM curious and would love to try some before I buy.

Well if you listened to the Grados, then you'd realize that the Ety (and even the E3c) are lacking in bass, in comparison.
