I have an Aiwa head unit in my car, but the problem is that it is only a CD unit. The problem is obvious, a tape deck connection would not work because there is no cassette player. However there is an AUX jack, and looks like there is potential for an iPod to be hooked up to the jack somehow. My question is, does such a product exist to connect an iPod to the AUX jack? Or is this a stupid question, and a simple audio wire to connect the 2 would do the job?

Do this --

Get a Belkin auto charger (or anything similar) and use its line-out jack to send audio to the AUX input on your head unit. The sound will be cleaner than using the headphone jack from the iPod.

It's really just that simple. Even simpler than my setup, which has an adapter with RCA jacks that connects to the unused CD changer socket on the stock head.

If you have one it will be on the back of your stereo. You'll have to look at the back of it or consult the manual to see if you have got an aux input or a cd changer socket.... both of which should be capable of getting the audio signal from the ipod into your stereo. Just a question of the right cables....

Impossible to tell any further with out make and model numbers of the stereo, and if you've got them a google seach wil turn up info if it is to be found!

the AUX jack is actually located on the face of the head unit in the corner, it is about the size that a standard headphone jack might fit into. Any solutions?

There are many ways to takle this and you can check the sticky in this forum for some great ides. I have an Aiwa HU as well and connect using what BarraksSi suggested above, the Belkin (http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=&Section_Id=201526&pcount=&Product_Id=149006) with line out. Run a 1/8 mini patch from Belkin to the AUX jack and you are gtg.

See Radioshack (http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5F007%5F002%5F003%5F007&product%5Fid=42%2D2497) for patch cable.

My cig lighter in my car is not functional for some reason. So that idea is shot. However, I was looking on Belkin's site... and found this (http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=&Section_Id=201526&pcount=&Product_Id=178147) ... the description says it works for HU's with an AUX in jack. The thing that ####es me off is that the pic only shows one side of the cable, I'm assuming it's a male-male cable. Anyone know if this will work? If not any other solutions?

the radio shack link product is better theres no way you need a foot cable for your car, on my old ipod i didnt have a car charger and i just used a product like the radiod shack wire to go from the Aiwa cd deck- to the headphone jack on the ipod but when i get my new ipod im going to get the http://theistore.com/belkinautokit.html and use the same wire to plug into the charger because aparently the sound quality is better when it goes through the dock connector

Monster makes a cable for this, i just ordered one to use on my alpine head unit. its 30 bucks, and has a headphone jack at one end, and the RCAs at the other to plug into your auxilary ports in your head unit. much better solution than an FM transmitter IMO. its available from the apple store, newegg, and crutchfield that i know of.
