View Full Version : UK Members - Carphone Warehouse icelink Install

This is a question for any UK members out there.
"I have to have it" offers the ice-link kit:
http://www.ihavetohave.it/acatalog/ICE-Link_Audi.html
They have a deal whereby you can arrange to have the kit installed by Carphone Warehouse "in over 60 locations nationwide."
I wouldn't be confident about putting this kit into my brand new car myself, so wouldn't mind paying the ??40 extra for fitting.
My question - has anyone used Carphone Warehouse for this?
Any success stories? Tips? Horror Stories?
Thanks

No experience, but I do know that carphone warehouse sell the ice>Link themselves at the same price as Ihavetohave.it..... However they quote 50 quid or something for fitting. Personally if I was to get it fitted by them then I'd buy it from them too. At the branch I went to in Hedge End in the south, all the chaps that worked there had it and seemed to know what they were talking about.
But, the way I see it is that to me its my car (and I f*ing love my car). To them its just a car and the inside is just plastic ready for the wrecking.
The Ice>Link kit litteraly plugs into the stereo at the back or the cd changer port. I think you have to ground it too so thats another connection. Thats only two connections that need to be made. The hard part will be running the wires to the mounting point. If you are okay with a screwdriver I'd suggest that its worth ago yourself. (thats all based on my situation with just a stereo and none of this sat nav crap. If I had that I might not be doing it)
To be honest I kinda lost my point in posting cos I really have no experience of them either way..... Basically, I don't want to put it into a shop where they have lots of jobs to do and there is the posability of them taking the short cuts.
Thats all no help whatsoever..... Sorry for wasting peoples time!

No that's great. I wasn't aware they sold the icelink as well.
I agree that they mightn't take enough care, although I'd probably have to stand over them while they do it!
Thanks
I'd still like to hear from anyone with direct experience of their service though.

Just a bit more advice......
Do you know that the Dension Ice>Link:Plus is out?? That from what I've heard and seen is cheaper than the previous version and offers more control from the head unit to ipod features and functions.
Carphone warehouse aren't selling that yet, and I can't see it listed on Ihavetohave.it website, although one chap on here said he has ordered it from them. I'm in the process of asking them a few questions at Ihavetohave.it..... I got an email back from dension usa directing me to Ihavetohave.it for the best uk suppliers. So, hopefully the answers will be with me soon enough.

I'm sure I'll post at some point if I get it.... Not geting any quick responce from ihavetohave.it..... might have to give em a call. But I bet you other folk will pos info on it soon enough.
Official nfo on the Ice>Link:Plus

Weigh all that up against the previous version that had only fast forward, rewind, skipping tracks and play and pause.

The Ice>Link:Plus is available from ihavetohave.it as of tomorrow so I'm told by the chaps there.
Unfortunately for me they don't carry the connector that allows hooking it up to the cd changer port in the rear.... Damn shame!

I phoned the carphone warehouse national line (0870 087 6626) to find out about this.
Firstly, the lady I spoke to immediately knew what the ice-link was which surprised me, considering every option on the computer menu had been about phone hands free kits.
Anyway, the ice-link is ??129.99 plus ??50 for fitting at their centre, or ??85 for them to come to you. She said the no screws brodit clip was included as part of it. Pretty good I'd say. Although I forgot to ask he whether it was the ice-link 1.1. or the ice-link plus. Will be interesting to see whether their price comes down to reflect the lower ice-link plus price.
On balance I think I'll go for this, as she even checked if my car had a particular sat-nav system in it that's optional on A4's. So they seem to know what they're doing!
Another bonus is that they'll do it in my local Carphone Warehouse in Belfast, they just need to order the parts, so seeing as my new car arrives in first week of Feb, I'm going to book my ice-link install for the second week!
Excellent!
