This was a really simple solution. I got the PIE Auxiliary Input converter from logjam for $69.99. Then a cable from radio shack to convert the 2 RCA female sockets to a 1/8" headphone jack. This was all fitted by the good folks at Tweeter for $26.

The actual mount is just a universal phone mount from Radio Shack. It's in a great position as I don't have to take my hand from the wheel to use the controls!

It sounds much, much better than the cassette adapter and it is unobtrusive and has meant minimal disruption to the car (just a very small cut in the door post so as not to pinch the wire). The mount can be remoed from the windscreen in a second or two, and the cable can be tucked away if required. it's fantastic to finally have the true sound of my iPod in the car!!

Pardon the crude nature of the web page - my first attempt at doing this!!

Sweet set up. I am going to try and set something like that in my truck pretty soon.

It's a bit different from other set-ups I've seen here. I considered having it down near the cup holders but I always have other stuff there and didn't want to have to keep looking down to adjust volume, change tracks etc etc. The only drawback is the inability to hook up the charger to it. I thought about this, but the reality is that I'm never likely to need to have it running for more than 5 or 6 hours in the car - I wouldn't want to drive for any longer than that! If I really needed more than that, I can still get the charger and just pop the iPod from the mount, put it safely in the centre console (where there is a 12v socket) and give it a charge for an hour or so. No problems!
