Need WinXP Service Pack 2????

I just got an iPod photo and I saw somewhere that I need XP Service Pack 2 on my computer. Since the last time I installed that it crashed my system and I needed to reformat. I have not put SP2 on the computer.
Does iPod photo really need this or is it Ok only with Photoshop Elements 3.0 alone?
Also, can songs be transferred without SP2 on the iPhoto?
Anyone know these answers?

no you do not nead to get sp2 and i really suggest that you do not get it because it really causes some peoblems with older programs

I agree with taboo8614, do not install SP2 please cause some devices or hardware could stop working. As u said so yourself, your system crashed, so did mine btw.
I also have an ipod photo 60g, I have winxp and SP1, I installed itunes and I can copy photo's and music onto the ipod, no problem at all.

i had a problem with the sp2....apparently if you download it while u have broadband it worked..it did for me..then i lost broadband for a week...bills...well i tried to use my broadband once it was back up and it wasnt connecting..dang sp2....it messed me up no wonder i couldnt download tunes of itunes .......down with windows.....sad im on xp
