Does anyone here know how the quality of the earphones that come with an iPod compare with others? I mean, they sound pretty good when compared to the $10 earphones I used with my minidisc player... but I wouldn't every pay the $40 that apple asks for these...

Would there be a better alternative to these? I can imagine that you can boost the bass better, I still think the bass sounds kinda metallic with these. Please don't mention those $120 in ear phones you see in the ads on this site, I won't ever spend that much money on earphones. How about Sennheisers? Are those better than the apple earphones?

Pretty much everything over $15 sounds better than the stock earphones.. You have many options, the Sony MDR-EX71SL's for budget in-ear earphones, many over the head earphones from Sennheiser, Sony, Grado, etc...

Also this should really be in the Ear/Headphones Forum (http://www.ipodlounge.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=43).. You might want to ask around over there for some suggestions. You should also provide some info on what you want in them:

How much are you willing to spend?
Do you want earphones or over the head, headphones?
Do you want an emphasis on a certain area of the sound spectrum? For example, do you want heavy bass or a pretty even spectrum from highs to lows?

Good luck,

-Dan

The stock iPod earbuds are not $40 new from Apple. I believe you're thinking of the Apple in-ear headphones, a different earphone compared with the stock earbuds. I think Apple sells replacement iPod earbuds for something like $17.

Hey Andy H, I see you have a pair of the er4-p's and the shure e5's. In your opinion, whats the better of the two? I have the Ety's, but was considering buying some e5's but hate to put down that much cash without hearing them first. What do you think? Thanks in advance.

He might be talking about the iPod + Remote package from Apple. Those are the only ones sold at retail stores, that I've seen, that have the stock earphones...
