I have a question for Honda owners who have installed aftermarket stereos. In certain models, the components for the keyless entry are built into the radio, so you have to stow the factory radio in the dash when you put in a new one.

I'm curious if any of you have done that, and how satisfied you are with it over the long haul. Does it rattle, keyless entry quit working, etc?

I have a decent Sony stereo I'm thinking about installing (and adding the unit they sell to make the iPod run thru the CD changer line in) but this stashing the factory radio behind the dash seems like it could be problematic.

Thanks for your input!

Do you have a specific model? I have a 2003 CR-V and I replaced the stock stereo with no effect to the keyless entry system.

Mine is a '96 Civic. I've seen instructions on the web that show photos of the factory stereo remaining connected, and stashed in some empty space behind the dash, they were the same year, or very close year, also a Civic.

According to this site - you have to keep the radio, if you want to keep the factory alarm...

Also states the dome light goes out too when you replace the radio and have to mod the car a bit more.

This problem only applies to 96-99 Civics according to the information I found on the internet.

Thanks - good info. Definitely something I'll need someone with some experience to do, or at least help me with. I haven't done much of this. Seems a bit sketchy, but it'll probably be worth it in the long run...
