After losing my beloved e3's, I want to get another pair.

However, I am considering getting the e5's instead. The e3's are super, so why not go the whole way?

But: Are the e5's really that much worse than the e3's when it comes to mid- and up-range detail?

And, given the weird impedance of the e5's: How do they work with the amplifier of the iPod (G3)? Are they a tough match for it?

Thanks in advance

I don't own the E3's but I do have the E5's and I've read a lot about both of them both here and on Head-Fi.org. I've never heard of the E5's being deficient in the mid- and high-range. If anything, they're most likely even better than the E3's due to the dual-driver setup. This frees-up the one driver for mid- and high-frequencies, while the other handles the bass-frequencies.

They work great with the iPod! I use mine un-amped directly out of the iPod headphone jack, and rarely have to turn the iPod's volume up even half way.
