I'm going to be receiving a 40 GB iPod in a few days. I have a JVC 200W CD player with an MP3 input. What's the easiest way to play music from my iPod through my car stereo? Is it as easy as buying a cable and connecting it to the input and the iPod, or do I have to do a full-blown installation?

Without knowing what model is your headunit, I can only guess and tell you that all you may need is a cable with either a 1/8" jack (male) on both ends or a cable with male RCAs on one end and a male 1/8" jack on the other. The 1/8" jack will go into your iPod's headphone jack.
